What do you tow?

I am looking to buy a mid size SUV that I can tow "dingy" style, 4 tires on the ground. I have looked at the Honda CRV (the back seats do not fold flat and it creates a barrier between the front and back) and the Saturn Vue. I have a 30 foot class "A" that I want to unhook the vehicle and hook it back up with little effort and do not want to use a tow dolly.

What do you tow and are you happy with it? I do not want a gas guzzler nor a compact type vehicle.

Oh yeah, leather, sunroof and automatic would be nice.

Gracias,

I'd love to have a Mini Countryman All (4x4)

Hard to tow an automatic unless it's 4X4 and can be put in neutral, otherwise it ruins the trans. Most manuals can be safely towed. In the US we towed a PT Cruiser, 5-speed that worked well, questionable for Baja with not much ground clearance. We're looking at a Suburu AWD manual.

Sometimes an automatic and sometimes a manual . It varies. Check out this web site. I know very little about towing, as I am a minimalist camper. But, I did check out vehicles for my inlaws and was suprised at what could or could not, be towed.

Jeep Wranglers are very popular for this. Transfer case that can be put in neutral, mileage meter doesnt advance and a vehicle that can go most anywhere.

I just spent two months on the roads of the US from the deep South, to Chicago and across Colorado/Utah/Arizona, and it seemed the most popular choice. So are the older Suzuki Samurais, the CRV and the RAV 4.

We have an 05 Jeep Unlimited. With the seat folded up in back, it gives us a 34x40 inch area; not bad. But it does create a barricade between the front and back. Never really seems like an obstacle to us. If we need to, we just stop and open the back. It's hard to crawl or reach around high backed seats (all cars legally must have high backs now), anyway.

I think finding an SUV with a back seat that folds completely flat is going to force you into a larger SUV; something that would be unpleasant to tow.

Wranglers are not, however, very fuel efficient. 15-17 mpg in a combination of driving conditions. We have the 6 cyl.
