Christmas travel

The family and I will be traveling down to Punta Chivato leaving Christmas morning. My question is what has been the experience from other Nomads with traveling on this day. Are gas stations open? How about hotels? We will in all likelihood be stopping in Catavina the first night. We have camped at the airstrip plenty in years past but would like to stay in the hotel. After the kids open presents we plan on getting in the car and driving.

Most, if not all, of the gas stations were open, nothing like parts stores or anything else, but, the stores and restaurants are open.

Chivato, on the other hand is likely to be closed completely for Christmas.

We drove north from San Quintin to the US on Christmas day a couple of years ago. The driving part was a breeze - no problem getting gas. The eating part was more iffy. We overnighted Christmas Eve at the Villa de San Quintin and they assured us that their restaurant would be open for breakfast in the morning - it wasn't. I think we ended up getting coffee and some kind of packaged muffin-like thing at a gas station, since most eateries were closed earlier in the morning, with more places opening up as the day went on. Just pack some extra snacks and drinks and you'll be fine. Hotels shouldn't be a problem either - call or email in advance if you want to be doubly sure that they'll be open.
