Chevy/GMC Gas Line Leak

TMW - 11-27-2011 at 11:24 AM

This may help some of you.

Thursday I noticed gas dripping from the front of my 04 GMC Z71 gas tank. There are two gas lines at the top of the front of the tank. They go thru a plastic standoff and they both had rubbed the rubber off the metal braided line. The top line is where the gas was leaking from and is probably the supply line with the other being the return line. They both connect to metal lines going to the engine after the standoff. I've got 126,000 miles on the truck with many of those being off road. I suggest if you have a chevy or GMC you might want to check the lines for wear. The first signs something was wrong was it taking longer to start after setting a while. Instead of starting on the first couple of engine turns it would take maybe 6-8 turns. Enough to build up the line pressure for the injectors. My problem started Monday coming back from the 1000 but didn't notice or smell gas leaking until Thursday.

Nope, wish I was... I am just so impressed at how strong and reliable this truck I have is... my third one, in fact (5 year leases)... I will buy this one, I think.

Yea lots of Gonzaga road trips. I'm going to check my 04 Tacoma and compare how the gas lines are done.

Dodge 24 valve turbo creates a similar problem. There is a cluster of plumbing connections for the fuel lines near the back of the head. When they go loose, and is seems common, fuel drains back into the tank, and no more instant starting diesel. No evidence of diesel leaking out, but it can suck air in when it sits!

I wore out a starter before I got smart enough to look it up on line!!! Dumb.:fire:
