Hard to believe this story, but sadly it is true... For a country begging for visitors and tourists- they sure don't act that way.

asking you to pay a toll does not imply they disrespect or don't appreciate you.

mexico (and USA) incurs significant costs in keeping border traffic open and flowing. the money needs to come from somewhere, and perhaps the school kids deserve funding more than gringos with sentri cards.

That the Garita de Otay 2 will be a direct access to the 905 toll road.......or it will be for commercial vehicles only.....thinking I read that somewhere....but can't remember which option

The 125 is the tollroad (north-south. The 905 runs west from the Otay Crossing to the 805 and the 5.

Why not just tax the Mexicans using SENTRI so tourism isn't discouraged?

Yup, you are correct.....I read somewhere that the Otay #2 crossing would feed straight into the 125 toll road.

Why not make all the lanes toll lanes EXCEPT the Sentri Lanes, for which Sentri people have already paid a premium in the U.S.

Sounds like Mexico is just trying to tax it's best and most frequent customers and citizens.........

I know it's a stupid idea but it's as good as taxing the Sentri Lane....DUUH...........

This is awkward for Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who is negotiating a “Beyond the Border” deal that is supposed to cut the cost and hassle of cross-border travel and trade, while stiffening security. But apart from small squeaking noises, Ottawa has no plan to slap a retaliatory fee on Americans travelling here. That’s probably just as well..."

These business practices are regressive, unfortunately I have been seeing more of this NOB as well.

There is no unity in the Mexican government ... it seems to simply be everyone for himself and grab as much as you can.

For all that think the Mexican's are not up on HOW to collect... taxes from folks with money ...

Get them all in one place... and then add a tax .. pretty smart imho..

Have the SENTRI and would still pay Mexico a "TAX" to get out using same ... using SENTRI lane as it exists... it's has been way worth it... and with even a small "hit" for the Country.. I'd pay ...

...... it is a small price to pay IMHO ...

Looks like the Loreto "Gringo Ramp Fee (Tax)" has moved north up the border :rolleyes:
