Ensenada shopping help??

John M - 12-5-2011 at 06:18 AM

We will be in Ensenada in the near future and are looking for hardware such as faucets, towel holders, and other bathroom fixtures - mirrors and similar unique decorative items.

We do not want the Home Depot or Ace Hardware stuff but more "flavorful" things.

We could expand our shopping to the Tecate area also.

Ideas?

As well as the roadside pottery etc. shacks just south of Rosarito, near Popotla and Fox Studios.
I know there must be some places in Ensenada, but not much comes to mind. Maybe someone else here has a better memory. At my age, I only use mine for the important stuff anymore.

Good luck with your quest.

South of Ensenada proper, along Hwy 1 before you get to the turn off towards Punta Banda you should see some independent shops selling all sorts of house wares.

Lower left of this photo shows one of the many stores you will find in this area.

Bazar Casa Ramirez is one place I go right in the tourist area on Ave. Lopez Mateos. The reason I mention there is because they have all kinds of nice things, decorative stuff, but not the ordinary. Also, Alex, the owner is super helpful and might know where to get the things your looking for. Once while shopping there she booked a room in TJ for my friend and I, we didn't know our way around there and she did. Recently I asked her about a dog friendly hotel and she called about 4 places to find me one. She travels all over the mainland and brings back cool stuff. I was looking up the the website, there is none, but she was mentioned along with several other places in an 2006 LA Times article about shopping in Ensenada.

We never go to Ensenada without stopping. The family are all very nice people. They used to have a store at Bazaar del Mundo in Old Town San Diego. We have LOTS of cool stuff from them including a few items they had custom made for us on the mainland (folding screen/sign for our casa). Next door is Cafe Cafe owned by the brother Memo, he also has unique items and you can get a good cup of coffee and interesting conversation. I always ask about the newest place to eat, he has turned us on to a few places before they get on the 'radar'. Good times.

good good good

This is just the kind of advice we were hoping for.

Many thanks.

faucets...my advice is buy something you can fix later
not the fancy off barand stuff

look for name brands with repair kits

the other stuff it doesnt matter

except get a good mirror
the cheap ones wont last
