Snowing in Baja Norte?

Mula - 12-12-2011 at 01:02 PM

The guys building our bodega here in Lopez Mateos just told me it is snowing in Baja Norte???????

Really?????

Any first hand reports?

Dave - 12-12-2011 at 01:16 PM

Could easily be snowing in Tecate and higher elevations. Not at all uncommon for this time of year.

BTW, an interesting choice for a handle, Chupa.

We've had this discussion and I thought she made an effort to change it....guess not. Ohhhh well..........

DENNIS - 12-12-2011 at 01:28 PM

OOOOOPS.........forgot to mention the snow, or lack of it. I have a good shot of the Sierra from my place and they are bare although rain is forecast for later in the week along with really cold temps. That should leave us with a White Christmas in the mountains.

name change

Mula - 12-12-2011 at 01:58 PM

I did send a couple of requests to Dennis to change the handle, but he never responded.

I would love to change the handle = = it is short for Chuparosa, and I had no idea of the translation.

Maybe now after all the Baja Gringo trauma, Dennis will have some time to consider my request.

today the snow level is 4600 ft in lagunas of east san diego, so lagunas in mexico should be seeing snow above 4600 ft this afternoon and evening.

the spm plateau is >8,000 ft elevation, and more often than not gets snow in every winter storm

Somehow...

Dave - 12-12-2011 at 02:01 PM

I knew it would be Dennis' fault.

confused

Mula - 12-12-2011 at 02:03 PM

Sorry, Dennis, got your name and Dave's confused. Lo Siento!

Hopefully now Dave will consider a change.
I had no idea there was a crude translation.

No, don't tell newbies that... Nomad is NOT my web site... My web site is VivaBaja.com (see the link below?).

Doug Means IS BajaNomad, the jefe de Baja Nomad...his place... u2u him for issues or name changes. It can be done, perhaps if you hound him enough...

I am just the oldest (or longest active) guest here... Doug is a friend, and I registered right after he started this forum in 2002... I am Nomad #10 and Doug is #1... #2-9 never stayed on or ever posted here... just wild cyberspace members.

Ken Cooke - 12-12-2011 at 07:38 PM

There was some snow Monday and Tuesday in the area of El Hongo.

Probably all gone today.

gnukid - 12-14-2011 at 08:02 PM

Passengers getting off the plane today said there was snow throughout Baja's Sierra in the North.

I'm leaving in the morning through Tecate then east.

Hoping all O.K. Anything more you're aware of?

David K - 12-15-2011 at 09:06 AM

Snow predicted for this afternoon down to 4000' in San Diego County... which would also include northern Baja.

DENNIS - 12-15-2011 at 11:37 AM

Rain is forecast for tonight here and the temp is supposed to drop to 38. If that happens, we should be able to see some snow on the Sierra tomorrow AM.
We have a hill right here in the PB area that is pretty high and covered with antennas and when we have these extreme [for here] conditions, that hill will be covered with snow till around noon the following day. Happens about every two or three years. We're due.

You in Lopez Mateos? The owner of Mag Bay Outfitters is up here fishing with my son yesterday... they have been friends since 4th grade.

Mula - 12-15-2011 at 12:38 PM

Right. Am in Lopez. Diana goes riding with me. Husband got a bad hip and can't ride anymore. Heard fishing here had died to nothing about a week ago. But bought some beautiful fat lobster yesterday.
