Flying from California to Guerrero Negro

tommix130 - 12-12-2011 at 02:48 PM

Are there any commercial flights from California down to Guerrero Negro? By my map it does show an airport there but is it just a dirt runway, and has anyone here done that? I would like to try Bahia Asuncion for fishing next year but dread that drive!

Thank-you..........Tim

The closest commercial airport to Asuncion is in Loreto.

you can find mexican operators who have services to GN.
Loreto is a LONG drive - go to GN and save a bunch of time.

The drive is a piece of cake, really. You can make the border to Asuncion in a day.

http://www.aereoserviciosguerrero.com.mx/en/inicio.shtml they fly to GN from ensenada, guaymas and hermosillo.

you could arrange a private charter to fly you from CA into GN or even BA, but may pay a fair bit more for that - perhaps would economical if you are flying a group. saving 2+ days travel time is worth the money for a group.

one of the charter operators at carlsbad palomar field occasionally flies charters into paved or dirt strips in baja (flies king airs). if you arrange a charter, you can fly directly into BA.

I'm with Dave on this. Any available flights to GN are infrequent and very costly.

Without trying to annoy those in BC, I have personally found much more enjoyment in BCS.

But, unless you have mucho dinero, flying to GN doesn't make sense to me. Flying to Loreto is not cheap. And, with whatever landing times, you are really looking at a days drive North to Asuncion.

I would suck it up and do the drive.

Guerrero Negro is a paved runway... It was built about when the Baja higway was completed in 1973... located just a mile from where the ribbon cutting was performed at the state/ territory border (Eagle Monument) on Dec. 1, 1973.

Guerrero Negro had a 'downtown' runway... which wasn't paved... but was as smooth as asphalt.

We have family and clients both drive from Lorteto, or take the 6 hour bus ride... as well as we help arrange private flights into here on either 4 seater or 6 seater small planes...U2U me if you want to know the cost.

if you can fly into ensenada, there is an air service that flies you into g negro.

the time are sketchy - sometimes they make them earlier than planned so keep you cell phone on !!

I have taken the flight and it is quite a pleasant one.

One Option

The group that takes fisherman to Cedros flies into GN, then taxis them out on pangas to the island. They leave from Ensenada. Hop a ride???? I believe it is Cedros Outdoor Adventures, or something like that.

Yah, you could SEE IT... then the army took it over and hid it with trees!

In 2007, from the La Pinta hotel:

Ever considered the Bus from TJ? Nice ride,
approx $75 1 way, something like 13 hrs.?

tommix130 - 12-13-2011 at 06:04 PM

I have not considered taking a bus because I want to save time. I have been driving down to San Quintin from central California to go fishing for about 5 years now, that is a 13 hour drive for me.

Since the fishing in San Quintin has not been very good for a few years now we thought that we would try going farther down in Baja.

Thanks........Tim

it is about $1,000 to fly return from San Diego to Asuncion in a 4 seater plane...time is money right? maybe cheaper if a small plane pilot wants to come down to fish or for a holiday too.
