Lovely photos, thanks you for sharing them!

Fantastic set goldhuntress, wonderful!! I absolutely love that first one with the three breakers and the beautiful egret in flight between the first two. Breathtaking!! Bravo!!!

DianaT - 12-23-2011 at 03:44 PM

Really nice. I agree with Ken about the first one, but then again, I am always drawn to seeing doggies having fun in the surf!

Thanks

I took a long walk on that very beach this afternoon around low tide. Could not have been a prettier day.

goldhuntress - 12-23-2011 at 10:26 PM

Thanks for the nice comments. I like the flying egret too. Just lucky and I had to crop it to get the feet of the one in front out of the picture, lol. You would never know by the pics but it's our coldest Dec. since 1971. I think it's also one of the most beautiful in a long time. Just the right mix of clouds/rain/sun. This weekends forecast is 68/38. A perfect Christmas weekend at the beach, IMO.

Thanks for sharing. I love the sound of waves on a beach.

vgabndo - 12-24-2011 at 05:35 PM

From 1958, the lagoons had just been dredged. Looking North toward City of Pismo from the State Park housing.

Sea Scouts! Anything nautical for the boy.:lol:

(Huntress knows this spot from another thread...)

I like them a lot..thanks for the "By Twos" presentation...a grand Xmas present.

Packoderm - 12-24-2011 at 11:37 PM

Where did you stay? I stayed at a hotel there once, and it was a bit pricey.

goldhuntress - 12-25-2011 at 12:13 AM

vgabndo ~ Nice photo. thanks!!

desertcpl ~ Your right, it's amazing chowder. I think the whipping cream is the secret. Good Ahi sandwiches too.

Packoderm ~ I'm fortunate enough to live right next to Pismo in Grover Beach. It's not cheap to stay in a hotel here. If you don't need ocean front there are a few for $60 to $90 but you would have to drive downtown. There is a lot to do in here SLO county. Pismo is the touristy area but there a tons of other cool things to do and see.

Packoderm - 12-25-2011 at 01:27 AM

We'll be at Half Moon Bay camping for a few nights after Xmas. It's closer to us than Pismo. We won't have the same weather you're having, but it should be okay. Our break schedules do not allow us to go to Baja this year.

vgabndo - 12-25-2011 at 05:01 PM

Funny, we moved from Pismo to Half Moon Bay in 1958. Much closer to the ocean at HMB. On the bluff just south of Albert's Mira Mar Hotel. The joint was a notorious speak easy with it's own bootlegging pier! Small world.

ArvadaGeorge - 12-26-2011 at 10:09 AM

Can you still get clams there?

You can still get a license and go clamming but you won't get too many. They are pretty much wiped out here. I hardly ever see anyone clamming.

Pismo Beach

Pompano - 12-26-2011 at 11:25 AM

One of the very few California beaches where a motorhome can access overnight camping.

A real plus: The rangers hand out phone numbers for licensed tow trucks.

On clamming, we were northbound and started looking around Dana Point.....

.....and found them here:

3 weeks later...at Clam Beach, Alaska

vgabndo - 12-26-2011 at 07:28 PM

Pompano...funny about the tow trucks. They were REALLY expensive in the 50's, and long before I had a driver's license I had studied and been taught at the University of stuck on Pismo. I made some pretty nice tips for getting tourist's cars unstuck with that know-how!:P

vgabndo.. not sure why you think I would ever have to take advantage of a tow truck on Pismo Beach...which was a piece of cake...or maybe I mistook your meaning? I posted that as information to novices. who might indeed need it.

I have no reservations about operating machinery. Imagine some chest thumping here: I was driver weaned in the REAL boondocks..and since age 8, when I rolled 250 bushels of MY hard-earned prize flax.... never had to call on any help to get out on any stuck situation.

My farm-related driver's license in ND was issued in 1951 at age 8 1/2.....back then that extra 1/2 year was very important, believe me! Cuz every other kid in our neck of Badlands, ND was an old hand at 9.

But I can suppose you had your reasons...;)

Hey..Ford too, stub-nose grain truck with pull button overdrive...capacity 280 bushels loaded..and don't let the combine get ahead of you while filling from the auger on the go.

After a slipped clutch shift to 1st gear and momentary stalling..the sound of grain raining onto the roof of that cab was very...embarrassing,.... especially when retold that night at the dinner table.

vgabndo - 12-26-2011 at 11:37 PM

Just sayin' that as the sun was going down and the tide was coming in, as A kid I made money driving cars off that beach before I had a DL.

I most recently stuck my 4X4 in bottomless talcum powder on the north end of the Alvord in SE OR out by the Mickey Springs Road!

I do it all the time.

Pompano - 12-26-2011 at 11:58 PM

hah...good on ya! I can relate only too well, vgabndo...the first outside the family money I ever made...was teaching my town kid buddies to drive a tractor while pulling a rock sled through our fields.

Guess who filled the sled with mucho rocks for getting to drive that tractor? Talk about Tom Sawyer getting that fence whitewashed.. Ah, those were the days, my friend.

yo amor pismo!

I used to live on bluff just north of there on Buena Vista St, Moss Beach.
