Best Food in Loreto?

Recommendations please.

I recall a great fish taco stand under a playapa in Loreto, can't remember the name. What is your favorite Loreto Taco Stand for fish tacos?

How about other restaurants?

El Rey on Juarez. The best! The fish tacos are great but the cabeza are better and the tripa are my favorite. Only open till noon or so. Open / closed at different days, no set days in the week.

Francisco is his name, and the best fish taco's in Baja is his "claim". El Ray Taco's on Juarez across from the Pemex station (or close to it but on the opposite corner & across the street. His sister runs one also in Insurgantes. It's after you are traveling south, and you come to the junction to either go right or left. Left will take you to Constitution. Turn right at that junction. The business will be on the right in that block. It's a white building. Francisco's father started the El Ray in Loreto. Eventually, turning it over to Francisco, and opened the one in Insurgantes, then turned it over to his daughter. don't know the hours or days, but the times we've been in the area, they were open. anyone with accurate information on this one????? The fish taco's are excellent.

Mr & Mrs El Rey del Taco are among the "gente muy buena" here in Loreto.
Their fish tacos set the standard, IMHO.

This one was made with cabrilla.....

Best food in Loreto? And then devolve to tacos? Sorry, but although I appreciate a great taco, I do have a problem associating it with "best food".

Perhaps the thread was not properly named.

Attempting to grow a consensus on the best tacos is darn near impossible.

However, just for the heck of it, we think Mita Gourmet and Domingos represent the best in Loreto, for vastly different reasons.

Another vote for el rey. The best fish tacos I've found in Loreto, or any place else, for that matter.....

Hey, what about the ol fav McLuLu's? Maybe the times have changed. Is Cesar's of old closed? Been too long since I had a chance to hang out. Hey Mike & Californiano--ready for a house guest after the Holidayze are over? Tio

I was responding to part a. of Iflyfish's question......and El Rey is the best fish taco hands down.

Now as for my favorite Loreto restaurant, it's Mita Gourmet all the way.
Juan Carlos made me a full platter of Plaza Shrimp for my birthday last year...........uff......so tasty!

El Ray for tacos.
Del Borracho for burgers and fries.
Islas for fresh fish. breakfasts are good, too.
Cafe Lolita for breakfast and lunch sandwiches (my face...turkey, brie, apples and almonds on homemade bread).
La Palapa if you're going to take your catch in to be prepared.
Mexico Linda for chili rellano.
Dominico's for steaks, but sides are fairly mediocre.
Ette's Pie Shoppe for dessert...fantastic pies, cheese and carrot cakes!

Now were talkin'!! Gracias amigos! Excellent choices and I did not ask the question well. When I formulated the question I had the most amazing fish tacos on my mind, the savory batter and the moist sierra tacos slathered with guac, cabbage and sour cream! Man, oh, man! I'm sitting up here in the north right now and the thought of those wonderful Mexican vitamins have my mouth watering as I shiver in the cold.

I can't wait to try some of the places you recommend and the pics are great!!! Loreto has changed so much since my first time there in the 70's and I have not taken the time to sample the great restaurants there.

Here I sit with a light dusting of snow coming down and you all talk about fine eating and argueing the nuances of Fish Tacos. We could at least discuss snow cones.

I suppose my jealousy is showing?

Huevos rancheros at Islas are da bomb!

The first time we ate there my wife took a bite of her food and got this strange look on her face. I asked her what was wrong and she said "I am trying to figure out how this is so good."

Can't believe no one has mentioned Pangalapa for fish tacos. Oh.... maybe I shouldn't let the secret out.

Totally agree with Spearo about Islas huevos rncheros, like no other.

I am all in for Noche Buena snow cones! First one's on me! Nothing like a frosty Noche con mi Juevos Rancheros! Goddess my feet itch!!

Amigos, another vote Tacos del Rey...best tacos in Loretos and possibly the world. La Picazon 3-4 miles north of the Loreto Marina on the beach is a must visit. Incredible food and view, well worth the trip. Incamann

Did anyone else catch the "Chuck's Week Off" segment when he was in Loreto. He did a nice job of showing the great food at Tacos del Rey as well as visiting some ranches around San Javier and eating machaca and fresh cheese.

McLulu's is still there but now I have to find this El Rey place?

Comparing McLulu's tacos to El Rey's is like comparing a McDonald's hamburger to one at Del Barrachos.

Alan....El Rey del Taco is on Juarez, which is the next through street parallel and to the north of Salvetierri, about a half block west of the Pemex on Juarez closest to the malecon. It is well worth the time to search it out....

Tacos El Rey does it their own way.... Open when they want to be, closed when they want to be....

So you know ahead of time . . . (we learned this the hard way.... (slow way)):

People SEATED inside get service first.
People STANDING inside get served second.
People at the walk-up windowget served next (last)....

and it doesn't seem to us to matter who was there first or last....

Save youself our frustrating experience (years ago) of waiting at the walk-up window for an hour while EVERYone else in town (and a stray dog) got their food.... No matter they JUST walked in and we'd been waiting nearly an hour. A few locals snickered and avoided eye contact, so we knew SOMETHING was up.... Finally a local Loretano neighbor told us our fopaw

Thank you Bill. It will definitely be on my list. Headed south in the morning but I will have my boat in tow so it will make it a little difficult to drive around looking for a restaurant but I'll be down there for six months so I'm sure I'll get a chance to try it.

I introduced my kids to their first fish tacos at McLulu's about 20 years ago and they have insisted on stopping there ever since whenever we pass through but now I can't wait to try El Reys.

We have "dined" on tacos at both McLulu's and El Rey. We much prefer McLulu's, but opinions do vary.
