Looking for owners of rescued golden retreiver in La Paz

danaeb - 12-26-2011 at 05:03 PM

About noon today my friend and I found a female irish setter with no id or collar in the Wal-Mart parking lot in La Paz. She appears to be about 5-6 years old, in good health and is very friendly and sweet.

She is being well-cared for now but we are really hoping to find her owners who must miss her terribly.

Please contact me at 612-127-5114 if you are or know the dog's owners.

Trying to post pics - bear with me.

Dana

hola ,you might put flyers up wear, you found her,,

HotSchott - 12-31-2011 at 09:01 AM

It might just be the picture, but that looks more like a golden retriever to me. It is really light for an irish - my parents have had them for 40 years. Also the white patch on the chest is all golden retriever.

absinvestor - 12-31-2011 at 10:03 AM

I agree. Definitely looks like a Golden Retriever to me. If you can't find the owner and need help finding it a new home let me know. Ron

danaeb - 12-31-2011 at 02:46 PM

Ron and HottSchott - you're right - she's a very dark red golden retriever. The sweetest dog you'll ever find. We think her owners must have been english--speaking because she responds to a 'sit' command. She's also great on a leash.

She's at Baja Dogs now. We go out and walk her, and many others every day.

Ron - if you or someone you know could give this dog a good home we'd be very grateful.

Thank you - that's a great idea. We were hoping that readers/members of La Paz Gringos could pass the word along too.

Dana- we will be happy to adopt her but a couple of things: We once lost a dog and know the pain that an owner goes thru searching for (and worrying about what is happening to their missing pet.) It is important that we know that every effort has been made to find the original owner. Also, we are currently in Boulder Co and won't be back to Baja Sur for a couple of weeks so we would not be able to pick her up until about the 3rd week of January. We travel a lot (in a motorhome) and we always take our pet(s) with us. (Currently we have one Australian Shepherd that is almost 13 years old. She is healthy and gets along well with dogs.) We recently lost a Golden to cancer so we know the breed well. Our Golden loved to travel and enjoyed swims in lakes, rivers, bays etc. He was equally happy in the cold waters of Alaska or the warm summer waters at Bajia de Concepcion. I'm assuming that your Golden loves the water and will get along with our existing Australian Shepherd. Our Golden got along with all animals and loved to travel either in a car or motorhome but I have met a person who said their Golden dreaded trips in their motorhome. Is this Golden comfortable in a vehicle? (We live about 7 months a year in a palapa at Playa El Burro near Mulege and the remaining 5 months we travel mainly to Colorado and the Pacific Northwest in the motorhome.) In summary, we would love to adopt your Golden but need to be sure that 1. the original owner can't be found 2.that she is a typical Golden and loves the water and 3.. that she is comfortable with extensive motorhome travel. You can reach me either by email or by phone at 303-887-0729. Best of luck and thanks for everything you do. Ron and Patty

This is the way it is in my world!!!

"Dogs Welcome"
A man wrote a letter to a small hotel in a
Midwest town he planned to visit on his
Vacation. He wrote: I would very much like
To bring my dog with me. He is well-groomed
And very well behaved. Would you be willing
To permit me to keep him in my room with
Me at night?"
An immediate reply came from the hotel
Owner, who wrote: SIR: "I've been operating
This hotel for many years. In all that time, I've
Never had a dog steal towels, bedclothes,
Silverware or pictures off the walls. I've never
Had to evict a dog in the middle of the night
For being drunk and disorderly. And I've never
Had a dog run out on a hotel bill. Yes, indeed,
Your dog is welcome at my hotel. And, if your
Dog will vouch for you, you're welcome to stay
Here, too."

Dana,

Do you belong to talkbaja.com --- Baja Gringo's forum. I know there are La Paz people on that forum.

Also, is there the possibility that the dog is microchipped and is there a place where that can be checked?

Best of luck. She looks like a great dog!

take dog to a vet and see if it has a microchip. many gringo dogs have chips so they can be found when lost.

way ahead of you... Not sure if vets here have the capability, but will be talking with Dhorea of Baja Dogs tomorrow about her vet contacts to see if someone can do it.

Thanks to all of you for your encouragement and especially to absinvestor and mrs. absinvestor who are standing in the wings.....

For those of you in the Centenario area who like dogs and walks it's great to get out in the desert with the pooches. Gets them out of their cages and us off our butts. :)

so great of you to care enough to get her to a safe place.

Just and FYI, I was checking the BWO and came across this post

"Lost Golden Retriever - Lost GR in North Pescadero area 3 weeks ago. Was sick with weepy eyes and caretakers let her go. Am home now and heartbroken. If you have seen her(Layla), please call Barbara Chick at 612-154- 5983. Reward - Barbara Chick, 612-154-5983"

larryC - 1-4-2012 at 01:10 PM

Wow, I hope that is the owner!

Hi Larry - I saw this too and talked to Barbara on New Year's day. Unfortunately our dog is not her dog. We're on our way to Dr. Gabriel in just a few minutes to see if she has a chip.

Well Patty and I adopted her. Got her on the 19th and brought her to our home at Playa El Burro on the 21st. Her history is unknown but she is scared to death of the dark, won't even consider getting into the water, runs away when a ball is put in front of her and hides under trailers, cars or whatever if it is windy. The good news is, she sits on command, comes on command (unless something spooks her), loves people and although she has a bad habit of snarling at strange dogs she actually plays well with our other dog and any dog that will give her a minute or so to get to know them. We love her dearly and where we go she goes. If you're in the area stop by, give her a little scratch on the neck and have a cold one on us. Ron and Patty

Oh that is a wonderful picture and she is one lucky girl! With time and the loving patience I know you will give her, her fears should lessen. It is wonderful that you are accepting her just for who she is and that will make it easier for her to become more trusting and less fearful.

She is BEAUTIFUL and she has found the right parents for her.
