Remote controls, short (15") shaft.

Thought I'd try again on this fine Sunday morning.

Are there new motor dealers in Ensenada? That's a possibility.

short shafts are usually only used on inflatables...you sure you want a short shaft?

Remote controls. The height of the transom from where the motor clamps on to the bottom is 15 inches.

Max rated HP for the boat (14 foot aluminum, 1963 vintage) is 40 hp. I had a 65 hp on it. Worked fine with some sandbag ballast in the bow and I like speed, so I'll go up to 50 hp this time.

I suppose I could build up the transom and put a 20" shaft on it.

What happens if the propeller is too deep; i.e., if I use a 20" shaft on a 15" transom?

I would think unessesary drag and would probably tend to raise the bow more since the prop is deeper(think leverage) and could possibly cause tracking problems.

Get the one your boat needs

I solved my transom height problem. What I need is a jack plate so I can mount a 20" shaft outboard on my 15" transom.

So if you have a 25 to 50 hp long shaft motor with remote controls, I'm interested.

Hola, ok,here goes..long shaft...25 inch,,standard/reg.......20 inch...and short shaft...15 inch's,,,, so it sound's like you, need to find a short shaft, which BTW is only in the small HP motor's and a jack plate is usally used in high speed app.'s.. and I dont ,think,,that your in that,range/area/class of boat....Keith & lil tasha:cool:

Whoa!!!! That's a LOT of motor for a 14 foot alum, it seems to me.

I power my GREGOR 14' alum. with a short-shank 15hp Johnson 2-stroke and it just rips with only me in the boat. I could see a 20hp when 3 or 4 people are in it, but I personally would not go any higher with my horsepower. The Gregor has a 16" transome.

I go with what the man. recommend's.... and you should, never, add ballest ,to a small boat,,adjust the trim pin...or move your weight ,forward and I would guess a good runing 30 hp would be,,plently.. a 65...sh-t you would be passing 180 cessna's...LOL:lol::lol:.K&T

I TOTALLY agree with you. Like I said in my previous post, 20 HP tops, and I normally use a 15 HP. More HP than that and you run the risk of going airborn when the seas get rough and flipping over backwards-------not good!!! :o

many moon's ago,, I had, the same thing that your running and a 15 was fine and I have to add,you should not add ballest to small boat,,unless it's beer..ether adjust the trim (angle of attack) or add a stingray (planeing fin).. I dont, think his 65 hp was set up corrictly...prop pitch, height and angle makes a hell of a performance change.. a 65 set up right,,would FLY !!! K&T
