Sunrise or Sunset

Santiago - 1-2-2012 at 11:56 AM

My youngest son painted this after our October visit this year, naming it Boojum Sunset but after looking at it I thought it a sunrise. SWMBO immediately supported my son (duh!). We've decided to allow you, the experts in these matters, to solve the mystery.[img][/img]

Wow, that's amazing! He's got talent for sure, lucky kid:) As far as sunrise or set, I'm going with sunrise. But I think you should have posted with out saying what was intended because it could bias the opinion.

I am going with sunrise since Cardon flowers are normally on the south side of the plant. The cardon in the painting seems to have a flower at the top, so to me that orients the view to the east, making it a sunrise.

Oops, now I am confused, after lookig at the painting more closely the cardon seems to have a flower on the north and south side.

Well, I voted for

'SWMBO is always correct, get over it'

of course. There was a post I read last night that you have a choice of 'being right or being happy' and I'm sure you'll make the best decision.

But really, the kid has great talent, Santiago. I hope you're encouraging it. Perhaps he and Mexitron should compare notes.

It is a very nice painting, I like it a lot , so I voted for it does not matter----

It's sunset. You can tell by the way those colors that are cause by particulate matter in the atmosphere stirred by the heat of the day. Another theory is that your son would be less likely to set up his painting equipment when it is still dark and wait for the sunrise.

I dont know...but that path is were I wish I was right now. Love the cactus he slimmed in..... at the right of this painting. He has a sight indeed.

Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset

Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?
I don't remember growing older
When did they?

When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he grow to be so tall?
Wasn't it yesterday when they were small?

Sunrise sunset, sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as they gaze

Sunrise sunset, sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears

One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears

Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset

AM...PM....no way of telling, so it's whatever you want it to be.
Is that snow on the ground?

how old is your youngest ???? that is really a very nice painting ... He must definitely be encouraged to continue painting.

Your son is the artist so he should decide what the name should be not you or me.

Obvious artistic talent. But I caution that while you encourage that talent, you also need to ensure that he develops other skills.

There are so many folks out there who really have artistic talent, but, alas, so few who are actually able to make their living on it. Something akin to all those waiters and waitresses in Hollywood looking for their big break.

My daughter has amazing artistic talent. She spent a number of years making the rounds of the various art shows in So Cal. She had a showing at the Gallery of Ida Victoria in San Jose del Cabo. The guy who owns the Treasures Furniture Stores ( the one right by Palmilla) put her work on his walls.

Bottom line, she has to earn her living from other sources.

Buena suerte.
