Some Imperial Beach Surfers

DianaT - 1-7-2012 at 06:38 PM

Waves were bigger yesterday, but not as big as further north. But the surfers were out today.

Just a few pics from today.

Thanks ---- and I never got wet----stayed nice and dry on the pier.

Awesome pics! So clear!
Remember it`s OK to lie here. You were really swimming out there, no wet suit, camera in a waterproof container, going over the falls to get the perfect pic!

That looks like great surf for IB--------we seldom got anything that big in Coronado during the 30 years I lived there. I remember when we did it was usually nighttime, and the booming surf could be heard all over town-----exciting!!! and the island actually seemed to shake!!!

Beautiful shots, Diane

Ah yes, there I was diving in and out of waves, suffering from badly cut hands from pushing off the encrusted pier pylons....:lol: Thanks.

Barry, there have been a few times since we have been here when the pier had to be closed because of the waves, but certainly not like further north.

But the surfers around here are very dedicated and are a bit crazy. If the surf is up, they go out even when the signs are up to stay out due to sewage----really bad after a storm and the treatment plant is overwhelmed. We don't let our dogs swim here---too many ear infections, so they have to wait until we are in Bahia Asuncion.

Coronado is interesting ---- they never report any pollution. Yes there is a current that takes most of it away from shore before Coronado, but...............

Very nice, people having FUN shots! In Ocean Beach the waves were breaking over the pier!

"Image" is EVERYTHING, you know. "Sewage" on the beach is NOT good for "image"!!!!

When I was a kid (in the late 1800's) the beaches of Coronado (etc) had lots of tar and oil on them, apparently from the Navy ships!?!?!? The city father's would never admit THAT, either, but our feet said otherwise-----what a mess.

I Love BIG waves!!! We used to surf them with "air-mats"----safer than "boards" and really fun in the abrupt crashing waves of Coronado (and IB).
