Goiing south yielded nothing significant. The Maneadero-Santo Tomas construction is moving along very well. More black top north of the new bypass.
Be careful going over the steep hill as bigrigs are clogging up the downhill.
I drove in the dark to Guerrero. Full moon made it almost pleasant and relaxing, until I hit the fog in El Rosario and North of Jesus Maria. I wasn't
towing, but could only safely travel 40-50. If I would have encountered live stock... it wouldn't have been good.
The construction south of El Rosario is finished, but the signs are still up.
The construction south of Tomatal and north of Jesus Maris is moving along better. Main problem is going north There's no edge on the black top for a
few clicks before the check point. I was towing north and decided it was better to stop with me wheels on the edge and let the trucks past. Very
tight.
Next day hit La Bocana, I cannot understand how they could fix Vizcaino and leave the entering and exiting roads in such bad shape?
The road into Abreojos is kick ass, except for a few sections of the 2nd phase. The 2nd phase road has some big pot holes.
Going north, El Tomatal edge as mentioned above. I have never seen so many dead farm animals in 13 years and about 50k miles in the El Rosario pass.
I also noticed more and more trucks are swinging the curves really fast - so stay frosty.
I've has an IAVE toll pass for about 6 years. Coming back is the first time I used it towing. Bypassed huge lines at Rosarito and Tijuana.
North bound Mex1 has a bypass at Playas. Towing thru it was a bit of a hassle. I just put on my blinkers and hogged the road - slowly. The detour
pushes you thru downtown directly into the border. I wanted to get to the ready lanes, so I headed up to Independencia to cross the bridge. I
crossed th bridge, but missed my turn left. Luckily I was able to make a u-turn, in TJ, running a red light - towing a boat. Life is good.
The ready lane at the border is not ready for prime time, but had about a 45 minute wait. The problem was with towing, CBP doesn't think about the
gate angles. I was able to switch lanes for a direct shot for my boat. Got to the gate, into the K-RAIL secondary. No problem 5 minutes.
Finally, the speed bumps exiting SAn YSidro are HUGE. The last time I towed thru there - I ripped my trailer whinch post as the boat came flying
back down from the speed bump... duh...Ateo - 1-9-2012 at 08:52 AM

Thanks for the detailed road report---headed down soon.
From what we have been told, the Federal Highway ends at the entrances to Vizcaino, so that part is up to the Feds and the part through Vizcaino is
covered by the Municipality, but I could be wrong. But there is a definite difference.
What I find difficult to get used to is the mulitiple, multiple lanes through Vizcaino and which direction they all go and where it is legal to turn
and where it is not legal!.
Last time we drove to La Bocana from Highway 1 we noticed that that second section was not holding up----guess different contractors for the other
sections.
