What are your favorite San Jose del Cabo restaurants?

Have good friends headed down to San Jose del Cabo for a week. What are you favorite restaurants?

Park behind on the double lane road behind the Tropicana. There is also paid, secure parking 1/2 block north of the Tropicana back entrance. Walk through the hotel to the street. Have lunch at Aquarias on the boulevard, wander through the town square, arts area, shopping, etc., then head to:

There has been a great deal of turnover in the restaurant industry in SJD.

I would agree with windgrrl about the parking thing, since they eliminated a number of parking spots when they re-did the town square area.

That said, the walking through Tropicana thing, they not only have a decent restaurant there, but you can eat outside on the sidewalk and watch the world pass by. We've had some very good meals there over the years, both inside and out.

Since we don't know what your friends' taste are, it is somewhat difficult to make a spot-on recommendation. However, dating back to our first trip there in the 80's, and given that the family that runs the place has taken to closing seasonally, I probably still would choose Damianas first. The bouganvilla covered patio, festooned with lights in the foliage, is a special experience.

And, either of Morgan's restaurants in the gallery area are recommended.

Plus, both spinoffs of Cabo restaurants, there is Mi Casa, which, while it boasts the same menu, is much more laid back than the original. A huge outside patio. And if your friends are into Italian, La Dolce, also a spinoff from Cabo, has great pizza and other tasty Italian cuisine. And it has a patio.

To name a few

Milo's on Pescadores in Chamizal....great seafood
Buzzards on the East Cape road....had killer dorado there last night.
Michoacan for carnitas...Chamizal and right side of the highway on the way from the airport
La Playita Hotel for lunch
Habanero's and Don sanchez...same owner
CJ's Deli, if they get hungry for a good sandwich.




Damianas is closed and I have never thought that Morgan's was worth the money.
La Dulca does have the best pizza...try the gregorio...raw arugula, chicken and parm...the absolute best cold pizza you will ever eat

I think that the French Riviera is over priced for what you get for plates. They do have great cakes, french breads, ice cream, desserts in general. I had one of the worst crepes I have ever had there....and that is as French as you can get

Michoacan off Pescadero exit for carnitas.

Guacamaya's one street north of Michoacan is our favorite taco stand. Everything's good, but the huitlacoche quesadillas are terrific.

Seven Seas is a beautiful setting, great service and food. Pricey.

So very sorry to read that Damiana is closed. It was an icon.

I seem to recall that in better days, they actually opened a second restaurant down Mijares toward the Presidente.

As for Buzzards, really? Wonderful location, but the "cuisine"?

And La Playita. Have to say we had many a good time there, before and after grabbing a panga to go out fishing. BUT... almost always had a problem with noseeums.

I think that Marisco's Sandy, which is on the corner of the road heading to Jungle Cactus, should be added. Very good campichana and such, local and reasonable.

You actually raise a good point. Ediths is above Medano beach in Cabo. Not really sure about whether the original post was about San Jose or the greater Los Cabos area. Since there are many really great restaurants in the Cabo area; not to mention the "corridor" between.

I just assumed that the inquiry was about San Jose Del Cabo as opposed to "Los Cabos".

I remember that it wasn't all that many years ago when one had to navigate dirt roads from SJD to La Playita and beyond. Although we haven't been out to Buzzards for about five years or so, I understand, one can drive pavement all the way to it. Times change.

Just thinking that back in the day, if someone was staying in SJD, a trip to Buzzards would have been an experience versus just another drive.

Nd not to sound as if I'm trashing Buzzards, just given the fact that the proprietors developed it when it was not all that easy to get there should earn them kudos.


And, the ;ast time we were there, about 5 years or so ago, we did see breaching whales from our table. A plus.

Hola, ya,times change,,we started building in 1980 past punta groda and now the new paved road from la playita leaves the coast completly and then will back down slightly south of la laguna and buzzard'z is a few meter's on the right (starboard) and the the road cintinue's to slightly past cobo plumo wear it gets to be pavement again and allover the area has fenced off area's and some place's have full time watchman, so that folk wont squat on the bankers land,,what a mess,, AKI&T PS I'll trash buzzard's,,anytime !!

San Jose del Cabo offers many wonderful restaurants. It depends on the cuisine and experience you're looking for as to which one is the best. I want to add that for a traditional and elegant Mexican experience with food, service, and ambiance, I very highly recommend the restaurant at Hotel Posada Terranova. This is an older Mexican hotel located in downtown San Jose. The hotel has been remodeled, and the restaurant has a large menu of traditional Mexican and seafood dishes. We have eaten at this restaurant numerous times, and we hosted our wedding party there.

Their seafood is fresh and well prepared, and their mole is one of the best I have ever had. They serve three or four traditional salsas with the appetizers. Their margaritas are a traditional and very strong mixture of fresh ingredients. They are some of the very best in Baja. Their breakfasts are equally wonderful ... with my favorite being some of the very best chilaquiles I have ever had.

This restaurant has an outdoor veranda for dining as well as an indoor dining room. The staff are wonderful. If you are interested in Mexican culture, and a Mexican experience, the staff are more than happy to talk to you. Mendel, one of the waiters, talked to us extensively about Mexico and his home in Puebla. He is fluent in his native Nahuatl, and he recited "something" to us in his native language. Magnifico! Evaristo, one of the waiters, remembers us every time we come in, even though we only see him once a year. Where else in "Cabo" do you get that kind of personal attention? Juan Antonio is the manager, and he will come to your table and visit with you as well, if you wish.

We absolutely love this restaurant and this hotel, and we make it a part of every visit. This place means a lot to us. This wonderful place is located a few blocks off the zocolo and tourist zone on Calle Doblado y Calle Zaragoza in down town SJC. Enjoy!
