Machete in Baja?

Hey Nomads,

Got a question for you that a friend asked me and I didn't know the answer. He asked if he (a gringo) could bring his machete to Baja, and also if he is allowed to bring it back across the US border?

His thinking is both some sort of security and also for chopping up stuff I guess. Anyone know the rules?

it is a "tool." tell your friend, the MexiCops and the USCops. i keep one sheathed in the space between my drivers seat and the console, at all times.....

I take along a really cool machete. Last year on Mex16 in Sonora the soldiers at a check point stop found it and spent a minute or two admiring it. No problemo.:cool::cool::cool:

No problemo- just an agricultural tool. At La Bufadora you can buy el cheapos engraved with "Lorena Bobbit Special".

I wish I could find a "Charro style" machete. The last time I saw one was at a saddlery in Mexico City, They are classier, with slimmer blades and hand guards (or whatever they're called), a bit more like a sword or sabre than an ag tool.

Click swords and look at the bush cutlass. You can find retailers online that sell Condor machetes. I have one and they make a quality product.
