Mengano - 1-14-2012 at 12:27 PM

Cabo San Lucas, B.C.S. - Elements of the municipal police are at this time (7:40PM) carrying out a widespread operation against gangs in colonia Tierra y Libertad.

At the moment there have been sporadic confrontations between the police and members of the gangs identified as "los kashakos" and "los inocentes", who armed with rocks and sticks tried to attack the police from hiding places.

Some of them are hidden in homes in the area and others fled, crossing yards. However, there are now around 25 police involved in the operation.

It was the very same residents of the area who reported these gangs as intolerable, as they bother students and accost young girls on their way home from school. They are also involved in acts of vandalism.

My Wife (and the rest of Colombia) refers to light-skinned Andean natives of Bogota as "los kashakos". Interesting. :!:

That neighborhood is fairly distant from tourist oriented places. But not all that far from where that major shoot-out occurred in front of Soriana last October.

Is there a connection?

Shopped at this Soriana's last month...looked like your friendly regular up and coming middle class shopping experience there apart from the brief military presence. Free parking, very good service in the mall.
