I have a photo somewhere from 1980 when I was the first one there.

Catavina, The Desert Inn?

Wow---really beautiful photos Diane---especially #2! How are you getting the lighting effect? Is it a setting on the camera or a filter?

Udo - 1-14-2012 at 07:12 PM

If one has the right camera, Mexitron, filters are unnecessary. Just play with exposure times, under/overexpose, change ASA settings, plus use LOTS of manual settings.
I use a Canon G-12 sort of an advanced point and shoot, and has lots of manual settings.

Thanks. First of all, it was right before sunset and the sun was directly hitting those rocks which is primarily responsible for the lights---then I bracketed the exposure for three exposures and put the pictures together. Probably adjusted the levels some as I usually do, but it was the sun that put a real spotlight on the rocks. :-)

I was headed out to set up to try and capture a decent sunset and I turned and saw the rocks with all that light and took several shots there. The only filter I had on was a UV filter that I always have on.

Gaucho and Blanca, I was sort of kidding about where was this is as anyone who has stayed at the hotel in Cataviña would know right away where these were taken. It is one of the reasons we enjoy staying there. It is just such a beautiful area.

Really appreciate all the comments---can't go wrong with pictures in the Cataviña area.

Ralph, your off-road car is probably stuck there because you forgot to air down your tires to a proper level!:lol:
