I bought an AT+T go phone off the shelf at Walmart last year, paid maybe $30 for it and it came with some minutes. Used it quite a bit, worked great. You can buy extra minutes just about anywhere in Baja. I have a verizon smart phone now and they swore up and down that it would work in Mexico. I'll still be bringing the proven go phone when I head south next month.

As long as their coverage area is wherever you're going to need it, it's the best all-around deal.

We've got (2) H2O CDMA (Verizon) Prepaids, a TelCel Prepaid and a Go-Phone. The H2Os are cheaper per minute with the best coverage within the U.S., but not in Baja. Probably should get rid of something, but they're cheap enough that we just keep them.
