My Poor Dog

Ateo - 1-26-2012 at 08:04 PM

Long story, but a cattle truck was back-firing in San Ignacio at the Pemex and my golden took off 2 miles down the trans-peninsular. Bottom line is we found her. I ran about 1/2 mile until my wife picked me up in the truck. We drove down the highway calling her name, "Lola, Lola, Lola".

A Mexican family was on the side of the road waving us down. It was a cattle ranch. Dead bones everywhere. Not a cool thing to see when trying to find a member of the family.

On the top of a desert hill, we found her.

Paws gone. 100 degree heat. Chased her thru the desert. My son found her. Thought we lost her. Will never take her off the leash there again.

Here we are at Los Cirios Hotel in San Quintin.

A bitter-sweet story, for sure. I hope it all turns out OK for Lola. There's a lot to learn here, for all of us.

I'm glad that it ended as well as it did. It would have been very hard for your daughter had things gone otherwise.

Your dog looks pretty discouraged in the picture, I imagine she stayed pretty close for a while!

So sorry that happened to all involved. How stressful that must have been. She will heal so despite it all I'm happy for the outcome.

My darn wife let her outta the truck before we had control of her.....:cool::cool:

'twas a nightmare, but we found her.

"...100 degree heat..." you say.

When did this happen?
How has your beautiful golden girl recovered?

Ateo, I like your signatures. I invite you to forgive your wife whom I'll bet feels pretty awful about it too. Sorta feels like maybe you haven't.

Just an elder blessing.....

I'm very happy for your ending.

Trying to figure out where you got that reading of 100 degree heat at this time of the year. Maybe since you were running and overheated it just seemed like 100 degree heat but a scared dog can go through a lot of stuff messing up not only their paws but legs also due to darting between fences. Hope your dog is alright and make sure you medicate her paws daily to get them healed up. Take Care & Travel Safe--"No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN" bajafun777

It's funny how we need to blame someone for things. I find myself doing it regularly. I can imagine your darn wife felt pretty bad about the situation. Any harsh words at the time surly helped. Clearly you have a dog w/the brains bred out of it. I had an Irish Setter w/the same problem. This dog w/die someday and you'll get another chance. Happy endings are good!

This was back in August coming back from a trip from San Juanico. Guess I should've mentioned that. No 100 degrees in January!

She's totally recovered - quite quick actually. That night my wife went to the local ER in San Q and got some feminine pads and wrapped those paws. I think it took Lola about 2 weeks to get back to full strength. Running thru the desert and on hot, black asphalt is not a good thing on the feet.;D

Thanks for the elder blessing. ;D. I harbor no hard feeling towards my wife. Was just shifting the blame to her as a joke......

Funny thing is the night before we had a lame little argument about some stupid trivial thing, while in Baja of all places! After that dog bolted, we put all that aside and forgot all about it. This little experience got us right back to what's important.
