Romantic Getaway

gr8wrk - 1-28-2012 at 08:00 AM

I know lots of places to camp, but I need help finding a sort of romantic getaway. A tiny village, a couple of nice casitas for rent on or vey near the beach, a little restaurant. I mean, a REALLY small place. If anybody knows of anywhere that fits this bill, please post up. It's important. Thanks.

mcfez - 1-28-2012 at 08:09 AM

What side of the Baja are you planning to visit? Pacific or Cortez?

welcome to bajanomad gr8wrk...check your U2U which is a private mail box up in the right corner by the sign in...

how far are you willing to travel?

David K - 1-28-2012 at 08:14 AM

'Tiny village' casitas with a restaurant... Bahia de los Angeles, but I think you need Loreto for more romance (although it is no tiny village).

San Ignacio (Casa Leree or Ignacio Springs), but no beach.. just a big pond.

Mulege... a river, no beach there.... But just south is The Lighthouse Resort... Playa Frambes. Wonderful casitas, bed & breakfast, but no sand there... but nearby on Bahia Concepcion.

Todos Santos... again, not a tiny village.

Bahia Asuncion if you guys are into fishing at all... other sea sports too.

San Francisquito.....doesn't get much more romantic than that.......dt

Ateo - 1-28-2012 at 08:28 AM

When I think romantic, TJ always comes to mind.............:tumble:

Pompano - 1-28-2012 at 08:34 AM

Here's just a few examples....Baja Sur is full of romantic getaways.

Pick a palapa anywhere in Conception Bay.

Charter a sailboat.

Get creative...explore....it's important, right?

La Fonda or Poco Celio at La Mission...............

Come on, Udo, chime in here!!!!!

Udo - 1-28-2012 at 09:58 AM

The romantic getaways is what we generally look for.

When between Tijuana and Ensenada, I will second bajaguy's Poco Cielo.
The Polynesian room has been our first choice for a long time. If visiting the wine country, Hacienda de Guadalupe is also a superb getaway.
If going to La Paz...Casa Tuscany, and in between is Ignacio Inn B&B in San Ignacio, try to book a yurt next to the river for privacy.
All these places get the romantic juices flowing. Don't forget to bring some ALMENDRADO and the KY!

rhintransit - 1-28-2012 at 10:23 AM

Punto Chivato? for big bucks and solitude try the old hotel there. or Pam's beach place on VRBO.
if money is no object, charter a plane fly to Punto Pescadero (north of Los Barriles) and stay at the hotel there. absolutely deserted a week ago, and muy romantico.

grizzlyfsh95 - 1-28-2012 at 10:26 AM

Punta Pescadero or Los Frailles (East Cape)

goldhuntress - 1-28-2012 at 10:30 AM

I think Punta Chivato is neat and isolated. It has a couple hotels and restaurants and beaches. On the north side of the point is a really nice beach that you could easily get to and have and nice day all by yourselves. And you could drive to Mulege for the day if you wanted more to do.

If you really don't need an ocean side room, I suggest the Malagon Winery B&B........

Yah, it has been a whole 3 hours since he asked... maybe he is already on his way south?

Baja sure has a lot of options... not sure if 'tiny village' fits, but there are other options... and the Nomads are posting good ideas!

gr8wrk is still alive and well, researching. Think we made a choice. Now, what's the best route from ABQ to Bahía Asunción? Like to cross at Sonoyta or Nogales, but that puts me overnight near the CA border. Not one of my favorite places
.
Thanks a lot for all the choices everyone. A small mind like mine was overwhelmed. I'm always amazed at how much info is out there.

norte - 1-28-2012 at 12:03 PM

Wow. My vote would have been for the Polynesian room. Much more romantic than anything I have seen pictured of Asuncion!

Udo - 1-28-2012 at 12:06 PM

DK has the maps for that route!
From Sonoyta to Bahia Asunción is a two day drive.
Shari's Rock room is also very romantic:
View from patio next to the room

Very comfy bed in the rock room:

The yurts look fabulous! Thanks to UDO. That said, I am leaving a surfboard behind, just for this trip. I am really an ocean kind of guy.

Again, thanks to all Nomads that chimed in here.

Gr8, Keep in mind what your significant other thinks is romantic. Otherwise might be a disaster. Men are from Mars, so probably good idea to leave the surfboard home.

Good idea! That way there'll be room for more fishing poles!:saint:

I know the answer to this. Married 40 yrs. No surfboard. No fishing gear. No books. No nothing. No side 4x4 trips. I'm old, but not stupid yet.

If you are an AAA member, do pick up their Baja map, it is very good for the main roads in Baja.

If you don't mind 48 miles of graded/ washboard dirt road... go south from Mexicali through San Felipe, Gonzaga Bay to Laguna Chapala on Hwy. 1. It is way shorter and no cities of Tijuana or Tecate or Ensenada to negotiate through (or the farm traffic in San Quintin).

If you do not want 48 rattle filled miles, then head west to Tecate (take turnoff for 'Campo') and head south from there.

If you need to see the maps, let me know...

PS, if your own beach is romantic sounding... then just south of San Felipe is some of the best! (this one requires 4WD and camping if you want to stay... Km. 26 is the access road):

Thank you. I have to stick to the pavement 'cus of the wife's back. Can't take her wheeling with me even.

Appreciate the directions.

Ok, Shari pop your pictures of your place on here for them to see, WHY NOT,LOL. Take Care & Travel Safe--"No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN" bajafun777

shari - 1-28-2012 at 07:33 PM

we have had "romantic" couples here before and what they like is privacy...no nearby neighbours, ocean view with an awesome sunset at c-cktail hour, a casita they can hang out in with nobody bugging them...lots of couples like the Sunset Casita because it's private and complete, you can make as much noise as you like...ya never have to leave the house!!! It will be fun to meet some newbies and you can bet I'll stock the casita with some romantic notions....hahahaha

BajaBlanca - 1-28-2012 at 08:16 PM

the sunset casita is so pretty

the yurts are pretty

I love punta chivato

have a wonderful and very romantic vacation.

David K - 1-28-2012 at 09:47 PM

This is my kind of special place... just me and my angel:

gr8wrk - 1-29-2012 at 09:29 AM

As "newbies", this has been a wonderful experience guys. We are contacting Shari today.

I've been lurking on this forum for a long time looking for surf info. We grew up in CA, my wife in So. S.D. county, I go wheeling in Baja with a bunch of guys from time to time. So we aren't newbies to Baja really

Anyway, thanks again for the suggestions and the well wishes.

Gonzaga Bay on the Sea of Cortez, about 100 miles south of San Felipe is a beautiful spot known for its great beaches and remote location. There are a scattering of houses, a hotel and a couple of restaurants. The area actually consists of two separate bays.

Once you arrive, however, you’ll realize the trek was worth it. Sparkling, clear water, beautiful beaches, amazing sunsets and little peace and quiet in Mexico far, far away from spring breakers and resorts. Gonzaga Bay still has the character of a sleepy little Mexican fishing town.
