Today, when we drove into Rosarito, we passed some Mexican army trucks full of soldiers in camouflage fatigues heading north.
FWIW, we haven't seen these trucks on the road for some time.

On the mainland one trip to Zihuatanejo I kept tabs of an oncoming motor convoy on my Dictaphone. The cadence went like this...
Three Ford F-150 pickups each with three marinas in the cab and six sitting in the bed.
Two Mercedes flatbed trucks. Each with two in the cab and fourteen in the rear
Four Humvees with soldier stationed on roof mount browning .50 caliber, Could not see inside.
Nine more pickups, then
Four more flatbeds
A Mercedes ambulance
Six more pickups
An old amphibious armored personnel carrier three wheels in a row
Nine more pickups
Five more Mercedes flatbeds
Another personnel carrier
Three more humvees
Another ambulance
And the shuddering racket of more than one helicopter bringing up the rear
It was depressing and not the first time I had a huge convoy pass by me. One day during the great SSP campaign I counted 46 pickup trucks in a row
just outside of Lazaro Card##as. About two miles worth of solid black and white. Some had their light bars flashing.

The Marines patrol the beach, on the beach- here almost every day. It's the new normal. I do understand they have been taken off of street patrols,
so maybe that is why you see them more on the highways. The disconnect is that Mexico will tell you the presence of the Military makes tourists feel
safer, whereas most Americans feel the opposite: "if there is smoke, there must be a fire nearby."

Last night, in Tijuana, in Colonia Tres De Octubres, at least three armed men dressed in black fatigues, with high caliber automatic weapons, burst
into a house during an early evening party. In a sadly familiar scenario, the gunmen separated the men and women , leading the men into a room, and
then opening fire, massacring all of them including one minor, a 13 year old boy. One of those killed, Daniel Cabera, is the brother of Omar Cabera,
'El R12', a former Tijuana municipal officer, who was detained Jan. 4, 2012, suspected of being the head of security of Alfredo Arteaga Azarte, 'El
Aquilles'.
About an hour after the attack, State Preventative Police, (PEP), working with municipal Tijuana police, as well as local Rosarito officers, caught up
with the gunmen in Rosarito, who refused to stop their vehicle, which resulted in a gun battle between the PEP and the gunmen, who were eventually
captured. Two Ak 47's, one R-15 assault rifles, and two pistols were recovered from the five men, whose identities and criminal affiliation are not
known at this point. Different sources are conflicting on whether the gunmen captured in Rosarito Beach were those responsible for the murders in
Tijuana, some say they were, others say it is still not known.
Some reports say that this was a message to 'El R12', that he was warned if he cooperated with authorities his brother and family would be targeted.
This kind of intimidation is common, when Federal police in Tijuana arrested Manuel Zambrano, 'El Jimmy', in August 2009, he was told through an

These poor people in Rosarito lived next door to all the shooting. Their house was shot up pretty bad, including the appliances. They laid on the
floor for 15 minutes thinking they would die. They want to know what police force will pay for the damage. Good luck to them on that.

used to run on beer. now they are all cranked-up. Meth abuse is on the increase, again.
