Starting Monday, travelers returning to the United States from Mexico will see a significant reduction in the number of lanes for processing travelers
through the San Ysidro Port of Entry.
The good news is, additional inspection booths will mean no reduction in processing capacity, according to the Customs and Border Protection agency.
Inspection lanes 17 through 24 located at the west side of the port will close until the Fall of 2012 due to construction.
However, 16 additional inspection stations have been added to the remaining 16 lanes.
"With these extra inspection booths, CBP will have the same capacity to process traffic throughout the construction process as is normally available,"
according to a press statement.
Travelers can get updated information about changing traffic patterns and border wait times by calling 619-690-8999 (San Ysidro
border crossing) and 619-671-8999 (Otay Mesa border crossing.)
San Ysidro processes over 50,000 northbound vehicles and 25,000 northbound pedestrians daily.
The port is currently undergoing a major expansion that will include a new northbound inspection facility, primary vehicle inspection booths,
secondary inspection area, administration space, and a pedestrian processing facility. |
