My wife was stalked by a bobcat today.

BigOly - 2-6-2012 at 03:57 PM

We were out birding near Los Barriles. I was off wandering around and I come back to find Debbie sitting in the car? What's up? She says this bobcat was stalking her and she had to flee to the car and I'm thinking yah, right. Kidding huh? Look at the eyes of this cat, looks sick to me.

Not a good sign that he didn't run off! If there's water around he should be content with the many animals that come to drink for his prey!? Looks abit like my bobtailed tigercat. Great pics. Tio

Looks to me like it's eye is infected.

BigOly, Thanks for the pictures. Looks to be about half grown.:D

They are usually pretty elusive unless they have young ones close buy, then watch out.

Debbie has been around the block a time or two. We went on 5 safaris in Africa with a private guide. We/she were stampeded by elephants and cape buffalo. Charged by a hippo and stalked by a leopard in Botswana. She said this critter didn't take it's eyes off her one second. It was definitely stalking, she kept her cool, tried to look as large as she could make herself look while backing to the car. Her mom(88) was inside the car and let her in while Debbie held her big ole' camera for photos and defense. What a gal!
If you want, you can go to our 'for fun only' website and see lots of photos of our world adventures. ;D

I see it too. There is something wrong with it's eyes, especially the right one. Here are a few shots a friend took last year when this cat decided it would rather take the rabbit up on a neighbors entry archway.

It stayed there until all their neighbors got pics and left it alone. Then took the rabbit and left. There are 3 dogs on the other side of the archway but all ended well. I've only seen two others at a distance. I wish I'd been there.

Bobcats are beautiful predators, and thank God, plentiful in Baja Sur. One dashed up a wash ahead of me the other day...rabbit went right, bobcat went left. Rabbit's lucky day.

Well, I suppose I might as well add my old bobcat/manx youngster to the photo spread. ;)

Remember this one, Russ ?and others?....it was at the old Pta. Chivato hotel around 198?

Bill Alvarado had quite a few at one time. I was elected chief rabbit hunter and supplied many dinners for these fast-growing guys.

As I remember, they did NOT make great house pets....

We know these little guys in N. Idaho, eh Cypress?

My old "Grizzly" (RIP) was 1/2 bobcat and 1/2 domestic cat.... I always just sorta wondered til my vet sent a blood sample to the vet school lab.... Grizzly looked a lot like this young bobcat when he was young too.... If I'd have known he was 1/2 bobcat when he joined the family, I think I'd have named him "Bob"....

Nice that you were able to see this young chap. I doubt that he was stalking or posed any serious threat, but your wife did the right thing in avoiding any possible incident.

His eye does look a bit puffy, and he looks a little thin... I Hope he fares well there...

Thanks for sharing the photo!

His right eye might be injured or something, but it looks healthy otherwise from those head-on pics.....

That cat pic with the wabbit is a great opportunity/experience....to get those pics.

They are elusive critters, and I consider myself to be blessed any time I have seen one out there in Baja (three separate times so far).

Most domestic Baja cats with short tails are likely bobcat crosses....

Amazing pics all. We saw a Bobcat the other day in Aliso Canyon---walked by about 20 feet away---busy hunting gophers, didn't seem bothered by us.
