Getting a little nostalgic about Up North today.....
Here's a couple photos showing what I am missing this winter down here in Baja Sur:
1. Making an old-fashioned Snowman from today's snowfalls...and then having a snowball barrage with the neighbors.
2. And a good thin-crust, greasy, old-style, fold-it-over pepperoni honest-to-God Pizza-"pizza"...not the thick, chewy, tomato-cardboard stuff made in
most Baja cafes.
3. Crispy french fries! Please!!! No more soggy papas!!
What more does Baja need to make you happy/happier?

I think it's obvious:
1. Fewer paved roads
2. Less people and development
3. More gamefish
4. Consistent schools of gamefish every summer.
Basically everything that was there and has been lost.bigzaggin - 2-19-2012 at 01:52 PM
In no specific order...
firewood.
1ft. or so of extra highway width on the quota.
50% more halibut (preferably wherever I happen to be camped).
Honest Pemex owners. Even if they were just like, "Hey man, we just ripped you off. Sorry."
Dogfood (not for me/my dog, but for the millions of roadside dogs who look hungry as hell).
What more does Baja need to make you happy/happier?
Me... on a permanent basis.

number 1 and number 2 for me; less power outages and consistant water to our house....with those items, our life would be blissful!Russ - 2-19-2012 at 02:12 PM
I'd like to see real tomatoes and other veggies, vine ripened and available any day of the week.woody with a view - 2-19-2012 at 02:13 PM
it's pretty friggin good as is. i prefer it to have cops, warts, muddy roads and well, maybe more good spots, cuz we all know the lineup is getting
too crowded...DENNIS - 2-19-2012 at 02:36 PM

Well...there are a few things Baja could have less of, but that's not the question. sd - 2-19-2012 at 03:08 PM
Roger,
A nice 400 mile plus or minus drive will get you the pizza you are looking for. Los Barriles has a wood fired pizza oven on the main drag. Owners are
from Italy and have fantastic thin crust pizza and great fresh seafood, last time I was there he served us the fish he had speared that morning.
Nice outdoor dining area as well as inside seating.

Interesting question, 2 come to mind,
neither are pressing, but to have Mex Immigration
have clear printed, adheared to, no deviation, no
open to different interpretation, regs would be nice.
Some not so slow speed limit signs out of the cities. A few months back, a poster was elated that Costco was
delievering to San Felipe, I thaught that was
weak to put an emphasis on that sort of convenienceBajahowodd - 2-19-2012 at 05:00 PM
The pizza thing. Don't we all know that there are only two places in North America for pizza? New York and Chicago.
Even a middlingly acceptable outfit such as Pizza Hut failed miserably in Cabo.

Sancho, I agree with the first. Something half way predictable would be good. On the other score though. When I figure-in a 20 mph USA style
disrespect for the numbers, it is't much different than in the states. Limit is 65 in LA and I'm in danger not doing 85! Is the enforcement equally
racially motivated?
The low Mexican speed limits ARE a slap in the face when only some fear their enforcement.DavidE - 2-19-2012 at 05:53 PM
Less poverty, less hunger, more honest government, better infrastructure to allow more of all the variety of fruits and vegetables to arrive from the
mainland to supply abarroteras, y tienditas.
More extraneous willing to bring more paperbacks for rural locations.BajaBlanca - 2-19-2012 at 05:54 PM
well, for those of you who live close to us here in La Bocana, you will perhaps be happy to know that our local coop is building a brand new state of
the art mini version of costco right here in town. The bldg is being built already and it promises to be amazing.
Our local fishing cooperative delivers lobster - abalone - fish etc. up to ensenada and then does shopping up in chula vista costco and drives it down
to our old run down store ... and we love it ....but I can imagine the new store will be nothing short of FANTASTIC. We do already get fresh veggies
and fruit from vizcaino and g negro as it is.
I can post photos of the building in process manana.msteve1014 - 2-19-2012 at 06:08 PM

Block the internet?
Did you just hear a few thousand gasps out there??
Sacrilege y heresy, m'boy.
Why, the shrink couches would overflow with all of the 'Nomad-withdrawal' victims alone.
Luckily, I have my tackle box. djh - 2-19-2012 at 06:49 PM

Ain't it the truth.....
...But then - what would some BN users do with all the down time ? ! ? ! ?
If La Baja could move the Cafe El Triunfo next to my hut, I would be eternally grateful (yes that's a cinnamon bun and the world's best oven-fired pizza). .

Papa John's is now in Ensenada. We'll see how they do.
There are little motorcycles with insulated boxes on the back going all over the place selling individually wrapped slices of pizza for 10 P's each.
Not bad after a box of beer.tripledigitken - 2-19-2012 at 07:44 PM
The above pizza looks good, but it could have used a 180 spin half way through.Roberto - 2-19-2012 at 07:46 PM

Fully equipped Sporting Goods store.
REAL American .....snacks.MitchMan - 2-20-2012 at 08:50 AM
La Paz has ALMOST everything a person could ask for. Heck, in the last 3 years, near my casita near the airport, they built a Home Depot, a Walmart,
a Sam's Club, a new giant Mega supermarket and a big movie theater, another huge shopping center with a new giant Soriana supermarket, a big
department store called Liverpool which is equivalent to a Macy's department store, and they are now putting the finishing touches on another mega
movie theater. Recently, they built a new giant hospital about 3 miles from my casita as well. It's unbelieveable in that the economy has tanked in
the US and most everywhere else, but in La Paz, the building industry is as though it is in a boom cycle by comparison.
For al that, the thing that I am most grateful for is that Walmart carries Sonoran Beef!
I originally wanted to locate in Loreto, I begged but no contractor would build a little casita for me, they only wanted to work on big houses in
2006. So, disgusted, I went to La Paz and found a great casita on a large lot in a great location for 1/3rd of what I would have had to pay in
Loreto. And then a great building boom followed and brought all those great stores and facilities mentioned above, all within 3 miles of the casita.
Before that, La Paz already had everything you could ask for, including the best malecon in all of Mexico, great and plentiful restaurants, excellent
shopping district down town, plenty of marine supply stores and boat repair businesses, a superb music supply store, all the professional services,
plus all government and administrative offices close by. But now, it's like having the conveniences of living in Irvine, Orange County, Southern
California.
As far as American snacks, well, La Paz has McDonalds, SubWay, Burger King, Magnum Ice Cream bars, several 7-11 type store chains (Oxxo, Modelorama,
Aramburo, et al) and more hot dog stands than taco stands.
The one thing that is lacking, though, and only one thing. Fish. Not what it used to be.

Some of us might get projects completed sooner!
But then again, look at all the free advertising that would be lost.

The governor just announced road paving that will cut our time on bad brecha by 90%! Baja can do no more . . .

Warmer Winters. Bajahowodd - 2-20-2012 at 04:11 PM
"Not bad after a box of beer."
For Dennis- SOS is probably not bad after a box of beer.
For MitchMan- Yikes! All those big box stores they built just East of the airport. Gawd. Do they really have enough traffic to sustain?
For Comitan- Warmer winters ain't gonna happen at the lattitude of Baja, even Cabo. One needs to travel farther South. Lattitude 22 is barely above
the Southern-most of Baja. I feel your chill. Spent way too many cold nights in BCS.
But maybe you need to even it out by factoring in all those 105 degree days of summer.
