Needed to go pick up the laundry in Palo Verde this morning so I took Bubba and the camera along.
The old road out:
BigOly what are these birds?
Washed out old road
Drag for new road. It's ready for repairs I think
A trail I took
And found the abandoned tomato farm

I just love the red of desert flowers.jbcoug - 2-22-2012 at 08:43 PM
Can't help with the birds, but the plant with red flowers is a Euphorbia sp., often called Crown of Thorns. That sure was a lot of square footage to
grow tomatoes. What happened? Thanks for sharing your photos, I really enjoy them. Wish I could fit in the occaisional trip to the laundry that was
that interesting and beautiful.

the red flower bush is Palo Adan I believe...and the pronghorn antelopes favorite snack! things sure are greening up there eh!Russ - 2-23-2012 at 06:16 AM
That was my first look at the tomato plant. Since the funds ran out many visitors have gone in and borrowed stuff. This is a huge complex with
housing, warehouses, the whole meal deal. But alas, no power to the site and certainly not enough water for such a huge operation in this area.
I thought the red flower bush was an ocatillo. If not what does the ocatillo look like?Mula - 2-23-2012 at 06:33 AM
Shari is right - that is a Palo Adan. It has branches sprouting from branches.
The Ocatillo has all long branches sprouting from the trunk and not from the branches.BigOly - 2-23-2012 at 06:47 AM
Morning Russ, first bird is a logger-head Shrike. The black one is a Phainopepla. Nice shots.Russ - 2-23-2012 at 07:19 AM
