The Great Wall of Juan!

shari - 2-25-2012 at 09:31 AM

Soon you will be able to see it from space I bet! Juan is hard at work on the rockpile when he's not fishing. His latest creation is the "S" shaped wall around the Rock Rooms patio making it even more cozy and private.

Oh how I love the sound of breaking rocks in the morning. Here is the artist at work.

Juan wants to wall in the whole property...here is the wall along the road going up a bit every day.

i wish i had a ready pile of those rocks to choose from. i have a perfect 16" block wall on the patio that could use some fixin' up.

tell Juan to keep up the good work!

Diver - 2-25-2012 at 09:52 AM

Long ways from where you started .... and looking better all the time !!!

shari - 2-25-2012 at 09:56 AM

Russ - 2-25-2012 at 10:09 AM

Those were the "good 'ol days". Simple, quiet and a lot less work.
Progress ??? At this point in life I'm definitely KISS ;D

motoged - 2-25-2012 at 10:16 AM

Juan is doing a great job of that rockwork. An artist in residence:saint:

And that rock looks like it is good to work with...

Last year...

shari, When the weather and fish don't cooperate, there's always something to do. Great work!!!

comitan - 2-25-2012 at 11:28 AM

Just amazing how beautiful you have made that place from what it was.

David K - 2-25-2012 at 11:38 AM

I commented on the wall in your Facebook post, too... It looks great!

Islandbuilder - 2-25-2012 at 12:57 PM

Juan is an amazing guy!

Great pics of "our" room, nice to look at when it's raining and in the high 30's here. Can't tell you how much I was back on the patio watching the whales swimming through the pass.

Thank you again for crafting a place so welcoming and beautiful!

tiotomasbcs - 2-25-2012 at 02:04 PM

The Wall that juan built and Tecate, no?! The exterior wall out on the road will really give you a tight, warm feel. Are the new rooms looking west all finished? Any new houses being built? Baja fam's place? Adelante y arriba, Amigos. Tio

Terry28 - 2-25-2012 at 02:13 PM

Rock on Juan!!!!

Bob H - 2-25-2012 at 02:35 PM

Wow, looks fantastic. He's done a whole lot of work since we were there, what, about seven years ago?
Bob

shari - 2-25-2012 at 03:35 PM

Geez Bob...you are due back for another visit dontcha think?

Island builder...some of the rocks you packed are in that wall!!! gracias amigo

Tiotomas...nah, the new rooms are on hold till abalone season starts...classic mexican story...ran out of money till next fishing season! no worry, no hurry right? one bag of cement at a time!

There is so much building going on in the village that our builders arent available...they can start the stairs in 2 weeks...maybe:?:.. so we can start the 2nd floor. Lobster season was the best ever so lots of people are building additions onto their casas. No gringo building at the moment except Nan&;D are drywalling their 2nd floor bedroom.

BajaRat - 2-25-2012 at 08:56 PM

Its beautiful. Are you going to leave a gate open so the 4 wheelers can ride through:lol:

Shari

Baja Bernie - 2-25-2012 at 09:06 PM

Do you remember the look on Juan's face when Jaime panamined (I know the spelling is wrong but am just to damn tired to look it up) stepping trough the gate and then closing it...before Juan completed it...He looked and looked and then came forth with his small little laugh.

Love the Guy...yeah! and you too.

...and a partridge in a pear tree............:light:

Barry A. - 2-25-2012 at 09:43 PM

Great wall, Shari and Juan-----good stone masons are few and far between. Do you still have the Trooper??? My 1989 4 banger stick-shift is still going strong and approaching 200K miles-------love that vehicle!!!!

Barry

shari - 2-25-2012 at 09:53 PM

We are on Trooper 4 now I think....yes, stone takes a special concentration, patience, dedication and artistry.

Bernie, Jamie will still have to mime the gate till we figure out what to put there. Metal is difficult because of our salt air and wood gets moist too...hmmm.

It has taken a few years of rock collecting to get this far and we still have a long way to go...rock by rock...anyone wanting to come down and help throw rocks in a truck is welcome...jajajajaja

Being invited to help pick rocks was one of the few times I didn't feel like a tourist. It was among the highlights of my trip, please thank Juan again for letting me come along!

shari - 2-26-2012 at 01:38 PM

Hmmmm....maybe we're onto something....invite our guests to do some rock picking:light: should we include it in our visitors activities? great idea!

Ateo - 2-26-2012 at 01:43 PM

I'd go pick rocks as long as you provide a 6 pack. Good exercise. Someday I shall.

Amigo quierido standingwave showed up yesterday and is hard at changing our door handle and fixing the kitchen tap....love you guys!

and today is also a very special day as sirenita & izaak get here this afternoon in the boe4fun convoy...tomorrow begins my birthday month and we have lots of cool stuff planned....ahhhh baja.

Udo - 2-29-2012 at 11:19 AM

Quite a bit of change that Juan made since we stayed there past December.

Juan has quite an instinct for fishing as well as being a mason.

motoged - 2-29-2012 at 11:33 AM

Aside from the main hosts, the accommodation concierges are a delight...
