Carnival Splendor in the news again.

luv2fish - 2-25-2012 at 07:25 PM

This same ship was the one involved in a fire a while back, now apparently several passengers were robbed at gunpoint while making port call in P.V. But Mexico is safe, crime happens everywhere....

"Carnival said they plan to work with the passengers who lost valuables and reimburse the losses." That is very, very nice of them. That generosity won't continue indefinitely however.

BajaBlanca - 2-25-2012 at 07:42 PM

oh man. that stinks.

woody with a view - 2-25-2012 at 08:27 PM

My wife keeps beggin to go on a cruise to Baja. Sounds dangerous. Just kidding. I need an adventure where I'm not driving. This would be kind of relaxing and maybe I'd get kidnapped.

woody with a view - 2-25-2012 at 09:30 PM

yeah, kidnapped by a roving band of amazonian women. their queen is/was called Calafia.

true story.....:light:

bajalearner - 2-26-2012 at 10:48 AM

I remember a story that the Ships are leaving their San Diego base this summer due to fewer passengers going to Mexico. Is that still true?

sancho - 2-26-2012 at 02:42 PM

I recently talked to a guy who took the 7 day Mex cruise,
he wouldn't get off the boat in port, PV, Maz the
Cape, my position was, heck you have nothing to
be concerned about

Yes it is true that fewer ships are leaving San Diego for Mexico and now the season has been shortened to the end of April. It is a shame because it is great to pick up a cruise form here in San Diego. I have been on several Mexican cruises with out a proble. I once rented a car in P.V and drove for several hours up in The Sierra...beautiful. It is a shame when things like this happen because the knee jerk reaction is just to cancel all cruises. The ports are safe and the locals are great.
My wife and I are taken a cruise on The Carnival Spirit to Mexico leaving on April 8th...can't wait!!!!

Several? try a bus loaded with 22 passengers, boarded by masked gunmen, and all robbed of valuables.

Ray

you might want to check with your cruise line, i think some thing was said about them cancelling futher sailing

Woooosh - 2-28-2012 at 11:26 AM

Puerto Vallarta police have blamed the cruise line for this incident, saying the shore excursion should have only been conducted in the morning when the safety of the passengers could be protected. huh?

sanquintinsince73 - 2-28-2012 at 11:50 AM

I say build a Port of Call at Woody & Ateo's secret surf spot. Blindfold all passengers and confiscate all GPS devices.

What a spin job, like it is OK before noon? I assume that
the bus was going so. of Vallarta a ways, I remember some
jungle spot, Chicos Paradise? PV is 1 of the safest cities I know of on the mainland

exactly. Chico's is where they filmed the first Predator movie and is just inland from Mismaloya. It's probably the easiest access to the jungle. Love the hiking, waterfalls, rope swings into the water and that darned monkey they keep roped to the pole. I have friends vacationing in PV this week and they are having a great time- oblivious to all. I guess being in an open-top tour bus made them very easy, high-dollar targets.

I checked with Carnival...they are still going.

angels4 - 2-28-2012 at 04:45 PM

Sheeesh!! I just booked a Carnival cruise from Long Beach to Ensenada... I should of just drove and saved myself the trouble and $381.00... But I heard the food is good :bounce::bounce:

angels4 - 2-28-2012 at 04:52 PM

Dennis,
Why am I a troll?

angels4 - 2-28-2012 at 05:06 PM

Dennis, check your U2U and I am with you. That wicked impostor "ANGEL" not Angels4, needs to apologize to Whooosh. I read what that person has been writing about Whoooosh in the Mark and Olivia post and it makes me sick to my stomach. I can't tell if it is a he or a she but, Doug should banned that troll. It does make me angry that she is making personal attacks against Wooooosh. So, I get why you would think it is me, but I think that Doug can confirm that I am not ralated to that troll in any shape or form.

Accept my sincere apology. The confusion was mine for not paying attention.

angels4 - 2-28-2012 at 05:13 PM

No worries Dennis. I kind of figure you were just as upset by that troll as I was.

I believe someone did report Angel, but it was not me. I stated in the thread I did not want anything edited and Doug checked-in with me to verify that was what I really wanted. Angel is a bully and coward or "it" wouldn't have created that new identity just to bash me. Appreciate the concern, but it really just shows how a small subset of Nomads can rally around a topic (for right or wrong) and trample anyone who dares disagree with them. Sometimes the tactics and hidden agendas raise their ugly heads and it's best for everyone to see "Angel" for what s/he is. It also helps me understand how that Turtle Soup thread go so long and nasty without solving anything. That place (PB) is toxic and apparently contagious.

angels4 - 2-28-2012 at 05:38 PM

Hang in there Woooosh you have nothing to prove to that wicked excuse for a human. I wanted to reply to that nasty "Angel", but I am not built to endure vitious attacks from people who don't know anything about me. Doug and Baja Gringo know me very well and they know I don't hide like a coward because if I don't have anything nice to say about people, I don't say anything at all. Blessings to you Woooosh for standing up for what you believe-
Laura

lose one's head (over someone or something)
Fig. to become confused or overly emotional about someone or something. Don't lose your head over John. He isn't worth it. I'm sorry. I got upset and lost my head.

Thank you. I have been to Ensenada numerous times, but never done a Winery tour. I hope they make it available for us. This is my first cruise and I am really looking forward to it and if all goes well, I'll book the kids and hubby for the one that takes you to PV.

The city of Ensenada is pulling financial support for many pro-tourism events. No mention of the Wine Festival at this point. Was that run independent of the city and won't be impacted?

"Ensenada, B.C. - The municipal government will suspend all economic support for the Ensenada carnival, the off road races and the Rosarito-Ensenada bike rides, announced Mayor Enrique Pelayo Torres.

He said that these and other tourist events will be given full logistical support necessary for them to carry out their events, but there will be no monetary support for established and profitable events.

He assured that this year they will not give one peso to the organizing committees for the Ensenada carnival nor the promotors of the Baja 1000 and Baja 500. He added that this decision will also apply to the two editions of Rosarito-Ensenada Bike Ride.

He said the reason for this new policy for two reasons. The first one that the city has no money, and second they are activities whose return is guaranteed, so it does not require the municipal authority to finance its implementation."

The Fiestas de la Vendimia (Wine Festival) is coordinated by Pro Vino http://provinoac.org/comite.php , an association of Ensenada area wineries and sponsored by individual wineries and groups.

I just read a report that it wasn't an armed group of men that robbed the bus but rather one man with a cap, bandanna and a gun. He didn't hold up the bus but rather robbed them on the nature trail. They also were on a tour that shoud have started at 9:00am but instead they were there at 5:00pm. Not too smart! Also, they say the bus driver was in on it.
PV is safe and you will have a great time. make sure you get down to the "City walk section" at the end of town...really nice!:)

I saw a similar report from PV Tourism. It will be interesting to hear from the victims.

Just saw the other thread on this subject.
