No surprise, but Anthony Bourdain's wildly popular Travel Channel show No Reservations has been picked up for an eighth season, and it's set to premiere April 9. This season, the traveling "cultural anthropologist"/rabble-rouser's destinations include:

· Baja, Mexico

CHEVY CHASE, MD (February 15, 2012) – CHEVY CHASE, MD (February 15, 2012) – Expect the unexpected from the 8th season of the Emmy award-winning series, “Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations,” premiering Monday, April 9 at 9:00 p.m., ET/PT on Travel Channel. Throughout the weekly one-hour series, Anthony Bourdain takes viewers to 15 locations, across six continents, which surprise him and defy his expectations – for better or for worse. In some cases, he will be challenged by what he sees, and in others, he is there to just soak in the good life.

“Tony Bourdain never disappoints. With his candid humor and insatiable appetite for knowledge, he effortlessly unveils the truth about every location he visits in this new season of ‘No Reservations.’ Every week, he gives viewers a brief glimpse of the world through his eyes,” said Andy Singer, SVP, Programming & Production, Travel Channel.

I watch his show sometimes and I think he comes across a little snobbish.

If he liked everything, he would be another Huell Houser.

"This is absolutely delicious"

I've never seen him dislike anything, Ken.

But I agree, he's a lot more watchable than Howser.

Ateo - 2-26-2012 at 08:24 PM

Howser and Bourdain rule. Case closed.

I meant in the way he talks to our narrates about some of the people he visits. I didn't say I didn't like him I said I thought he was a little snobby.

I have noticed this, but in the case of Ted Nugent, his post-assessments were entirely justified, IMHO.

Ted Nugent in his element

Roasted iguana for one. He so strongly disliked it that it sticks in my mind from a show years ago. Would almost make me not try it should it be offered. Almost.

You must not have seen the one with the Kalahari Bushmen in Namibia.

KASHEYDOG - 2-27-2012 at 01:05 PM

You're right. That was a good one. I enjoyed it very much.

Ever notice that Zimmern goes to the same places Bourdain goes? Or is it the other way around? They do have slightly different perspectives. The one I don't bother watching is Adam Richmond's "Man vs. Food" it's just about quantity. I just can't see wasting half an hour watching some guy stuff his face.

Agree... he is eating himself to death (it seems). I like Zimmern as it is just fun to watch him eat bugs and eye balls with glee... However, he won't touch walnuts... and hates one of the tropical world's most popular fruit, durians (although he does keep trying them, lol).

perhaps they rely on the same producers or researchers.

it's just TV -- scripted to be "visual" and sell advertising. the producers and researchers do just enough to get by, and no more.

capt. mike - 2-27-2012 at 04:28 PM

Bourdains 1st book is a classic that anyone with an interest in food or restaurant work should read.
NYT bestseller for some time when it 1st printed.

he's funny but in a very sarcastic way at times.
So what - he's gotten rico and earned his style. He's making money for his producers and selling the ads no problem.

Oso - 2-27-2012 at 04:44 PM

I read "Kitchen Confidential" years ago, before he ever had a TV show. I wasn't aware he's written more. I'll have to look for them. He is definitely one of the few celebrities I'd like to "have a beer with."

Bajahowodd - 2-27-2012 at 06:06 PM

In my opinion, there is really little comparison between Tony and Andrew. Especially when you consider that Tony is a chef and owned his own restaunt(s),

THE Baja...what is it with THE Baja...isn't it BAJA, period?? Sort of reminds me of Donald Trump...THE Donald...

It has to do with Jessie Ventura. THE BAJA sounds more impressive than, 'baja'.

Any guy who had to use methadone for 8 years to get off heroin, only to make a successful TV show and make millions is OK in my book. He really turned his life around. Hope he eats at Mama's and Christy's Taco's in San Juanico. :bounce::bounce::bounce:

THIS TONY BOURDAIN VID CLIP is from his Panama shoot last year...burning 6 TONS of cocaine.

CHEERS

Bourdain Strives to Be Honest and Real

Gypsy Jan - 2-27-2012 at 08:34 PM

He puts everything about himself out there for examination.

He went back to his old kitchen in Les Halles, New York, to test himself to see if he could survive the brutal routine of a fast paced kitchen after years of being celebrated and acclaimed.

He did an entire show as an appreciation of the determination and hard work of the Mexican immigrant who replaced him as executive chef (the restaurant sponsored his citizenship) and Bourdain traveled with him to visit his family in central Mexico to find and document his roots.

Also, Bourdain did a very telling and informative piece about the Texas/Mexico border, where a legal immigrant works in a sushi restaurant near the border and sends all his money home to his family, which built a house and market for them, but he can't go see them because he is still waiting for his citizenship.

Bourdain may come off as an arrogant, posturing celebrity on first glance, but he has substance and works hard to make his shows culturally informative, instead of an exercise in pictorial food porn

Guess you don't meet many Canadians in 'The Baja'? Think of it this way, Baja has become so well known, it doesn't need to be attached to California anymore... Or that The Baja is short for The Baja Peninsula...

British people use terms like The Sudan, The Sahara, The Congo, etc. so why not 'The Baja'?

Jimmy Smith (like you) hated the term 'The Baja'.. and in his book you will see a map made by Dave Deal addressing the issue:

Great info, David!

Thanks amigo... I love all of Dave Deal's cartoons... specially the off road ones! Dave is no longer with us, but his art web site is still online. He did most of the characters in Pixar's movie CARS, as well!

Dave Deal was certainly an American original. You can't imitate such raw talent. Incredible.
