My sweetheart took this photo yesterday. Bless her heart anyway. Makes a person wonder how we can possibly slow down enough, for just a moment, to enjoy things going on all around us.

Wonderful pic of the hummer!! Ours are coming back in droves the last few days, as are many other birds.

BigOly you would'nt happen to know anything about placement of owl boxes would you? We built 4 boxes for barn or spotted (which we have in the arroyo above us) and 4 for screech. How far apart do you think? We were planning 1/4 mile or so between boxes... does that sound about right?

You should come to visit us, we can take you up to the condor project!

love your pics

Mike

who in the hell dosnt like bird's ?? except when its seagull's bombing your boat !!

BigOly - 2-27-2012 at 04:04 PM

Well captkw there are those who like birds in a different way. I know, love them for dinner and all that however take a look at my avatar. That's a photo of a Red-tailed Hawk watching me examine the remains of one of his parents and a sibling stacked together on the ground while the other mom or dad circled above us screeching mournfully or perhaps in anger . This bird was too young to fly more than a few feet at a time. Out in the middle of desert nowhere, I found these birds apparently shot, definitely beheaded with talons removed. I guess someone liked these trophy bird body parts enough to kill for them.

Here, big fat Robins have arrived in flocks. The first few Vultures have circled north. I expect to hear the far away squeaky snow sound of Sand Hill Cranes soon.

Mrs. Iflyfish is gonna love that hummer!
