Remember the cruise ship "AZURE SEAS"?

It started the 3 and 4 day cruises from" Smell-A" to Ensenada in the early eighties. I was a Radio Officer from '82-'84... Man I wish I knew then what I know now.

I remember her well. So did you sail with John Mcguire? He told lots of good stories about those Ensenada cruises. Didn't pay much, but never a dull time

That name rings a bell what did he do? I actualy experienced "Too Much Fun" on a regular basis.

Yes...I do remember the A.S. The ex and I did a 3 day for our 15th anniversary in 86. You sure couldn't beat the price. We did the 3 day to as a test run to see how the ex would do. She never liked being out to sea and would get seasick on smaller boats. She was queasy on that trip but never got full on seasick. But she never wanted to take another cruise again.

It was a lot of fun. We were joined by 2 other couples who were friends. One was also celebrating an anniversary that was the same day as ours.
The food was excellent - and there was plenty of it of course, at any time of the day!

The entertainment and activities were good and we enjoyed them. Saturday night, they had a local Mexican dance troupe that performed and that was a real treat to see. We got off in Ensenada and did a van tour on Saturday afternoon. We had a really fun driver and enjoyed his tour!

John sailed there as 2/m and c/m. I think the record for having too much fun was one 2/m who had to take a bus home from Ensenada on the first voyage. Still have my dress whites from the relief job I never took on her. I wonder if the new ships on that route are that wild?

I doubt that. Herpes was just coming on the scene and AIDS was around the corner. It was the end of the Sexual Revolution. I know Dennis won't belive this but that life gets old after awhile. Not that it wasn't great for a time!
I loved the opportunity to learn about all the cultures on board. We had over 30 different nations represented at any one time. I really liked how happy the Caribean islanders were. I was listening to a Reggae show on FM at the time and got to know a bunch of the Rasta Slang that I would spew to them. They loved it.
I woke to the 30 minute warning horn in a room at the Bahia Hotel one morning. That was a panic. Made it to the ship just as they were pulling the gangplank!

Azure Seas HISTORY: Very interesting read. She was originally the Southern Cross brand new in 1955.

I do believe it. I was a bartender in some very popular gin mills in Newport Beach in the 60's....and later. It was an era when Frankenstein could have made out in a bar.

On Cinco de Mayo, 1975, I was in San Juan Capistrano opening the "Capistrano Depot" restaurant. [it only took me five minutes to remember that. Pretty good, for me these days :lol:]

Anyway.....do you recall the Alley West, and Baer's Lair? Two of my past employers.

Alley West I barely remember. There was a club on the corner of Bayside and PCH Upstairs just south of Rubens that I did most of my social interaction... I ended up married to a Bikini Model for all the right reasons! We just celebrated 27 Years together. Who'd of thunk...
