You mean you ate the can of chili in the car on the way home? hmmm.

I think the Dr and Dennis have a thing going on. Sadly, it seems to be only food based for now: bisquick, pre-dawn pancakes, and chili dogs.

:spingrin::spingrin:

NO I didn't....

EnsenadaDr - 3-6-2012 at 07:34 PM

I don't carry a can of Hormel chili in my car...I got home and heated it up in the microwave first!!!

Necktie???

EnsenadaDr - 3-6-2012 at 08:04 PM

Dennis doesn't own a necktie, he told me he hasn't worn one since Vietnam!! Now Kashey Dog, from his picture I gather, doesn't have a problem going out to a really nice place and dress up for it....rumor has it that he knows the best places in town!!!

Hi Doc and Nomads...

I LOVE Chili Dogs too! ...And Hormel (w/o beans) is pretty good on them. When I open a can of Hormel, I always like to eat a couple spoonfuls cold. Not sure why, but I like it cold too.

When I camp in Baja, Chili Dogs are always one of my go to easy to fix meals that's cheap and very filling!

I like to use Polish dogs with all the fixings....toasted buns, mustard, Nacho Cheese (from the squeeze bottle), Nacho Jalapeno slices, and lots of fine chopped onion. After cooking the dogs and pre-warming the Chili, I assemble the Chili Dog open face and heat it in the microwave (at home). Onions and Jalapenos go on after microwaving. If you want a little more kick, add some Tabasco or Chipotle Sauce.

Another GOOD Chili type topping is 'Great Value' - 'Hot Dog Chili Sauce' which is available at Walmart (their own brand). It's more like the Chili that you get on a dog at fast food restaurants. Very tasty and only about .75 cents a can.

For a really TASTY appetizer, try heating some Hormel (NO beans) in a pan with grated Mexican blend cheese or Velveeta and some Rotel or Salsa. If you want a bit more kick, add a couple of spoonfuls of chopped Jalapenos (in the little can). Delicious for dippping Tortilla Chips or on Nachos!!

Oh, come on. NOTHING that Hormel makes is the best example of that particular food.

Roberto, I think the use of the word chili is a term of conventional useage to differentiate it from the word chile so that you know whether someone is talking about the prepared food or the actual pepper, itself. JMG.

Costco in Mexico has a partcularly good hot dog called Salchichas de Res. Kirkland brand. Basically, all beef hotdogs.

For an easy party dip, take a can of Hormel hot chilli no beans and a block or two of Philly cream cheese, put the two in a bowl, microwave 'till cheese is melted, stir and serve with tortilla chips. Use your imagination for optional ingredients.

What? You heated the CAN of chili in the microwave? Even DENNIS knows that you're supposed to take the contents out of the can first.:lol:

Didn't say it was the best example...only pretty good! There are definitely better products out there. The problem sometimes is finding them. Supermarkets usually just carry the well known brand names who often pay for shelf space and give incentives to them to buy and sell.

Miguelamo  ;D  :)

DENNIS - 3-7-2012 at 01:21 PM

I liken Hormel Chili to the pastey meat in a Jack In The Box taco. If anybody can identify either one by their ingredients, they get a big, fat prize.

Junk foodie...

EnsenadaDr - 3-7-2012 at 01:44 PM

Dennis,

You're such a junk foodie you devil you!!!

tiotomasbcs - 3-7-2012 at 01:59 PM

Funny stuff as usual. Let this thread go by until I realized its potential? I do like chili dogs but for me Staggs Chili with Beans is the best! Like many I can't resist a spoonful cold before I heat it up. Nobody carries any US brand chili or Chili with Beans in Baja Sur. Sooo, I bring it down with me after a visit to the states:o On a cold day it starts talking to me from the cupboards. MMmmmm. Tio  ps thanks for the post Dr.

As easy and simple as it is to make great chili, why would one buy it in a can??:no::?::?:

Hormel...a top shelf brand...

I beg your pardon, anything that has grease floating at the top when you open it up can't be all bad...(take your Lipitor first!!!):o

"Oh I wish I were an oscar Meyer weiner......." I liked Carroll Shelby's
Chili in a bag. But
I understand that a company bought it out,
changed the packaging and messed with the spice mix. Not the same I have been told.

J.P. - 3-7-2012 at 05:50 PM

Hormel Chili is pretty good but there is a brand out there that is better it's called WOLF Brand its popular in the midwest but harder to find in this region.:yes:

Crap in a can

........not only Lipitor, but take your Omeprazole as well..........

Last time I ate anything like that, it came in little green cans that you needed a P-38 to open and was labled: Stew, Beef or Slices, Pork.......neither had any resemblance to the names on the can.

AmoPescar - 3-8-2012 at 03:07 AM

Dennis...

You are absolutely right! ...There's nothing in a can that can compare to homemade Chili.

Chili with Burger in it is okay, But when I get serious about making it, I like to cut up some good Beef Chuck ot Top Round to make it and let it simmer until real tender. Real beef really makes it!!

Miguelamo  YES  :D

watizname - 3-8-2012 at 08:19 AM

UMMMMMM Chili dogs. Hebrew National are the only dogs to buy, Hormel chili is good too with the chopped onions, cheese, jalapinos, and mustard. BUT, for a tasty change, sauerkraut, onions, and mustard with jalapinos is good also. I just figured out what I'm having for lunch!:light::light::light:
