Getting ready for bedtime...with new, name-brand camping equipment


The next day, Art went for a +mile walk down the beach. Being sedentary Baja Nomads, David K and I drove down the beach, looking for the perfect sea shells.

Excellent shots and descriptions, Ken. What a wonderful spot. Wind is a "given" on the SOC, and when not present it is heaven!!! But on hot days, or rare buggy days, the wind can be a blessing, and it normally quits in the evening for incredible campfire happenings up til bed time..

(but I sure love my Callen Camper when it really decides to BLOW.)

I am constantly amazed where Art gets that monster camper MoHo-------what a vehicle!!!!

Being 4th of July (2010), the sea breeze is welcomed... and I don't recall it being a strong or problem wind (like the one that hit us 4th of July weekend 2011 (and sunk the Erik off Punta Bufeo)...

That one took down our sun shade and ripped our tent... Both have been replaced, but have not yet been used... need a Baja fix!!

It does, as we are on sand and not driving through the dunes or over any plants. It is very deep sand and actually a human foot print will go deeper than a properly deflated truck tire! You can even see some foot prints over the the tire tracks in that photo (bottom right)!

Until the next wind or super high tide, tracks over tracks looks like a lot of travel... But, they could be from months ago. The entire 4th of July weekend that year and again last year, we saw nobody else on the beach but us.

Actually, it does. You don't see trash, plastic bottle holders (which pin Pelican beaks closed), the rigs are parked, not running like crazy up and down the beach, nothing is exploding/rotting on the beach for others to figure a way to clean up and/or clear out.

As a matter of fact, you don't see trash being thrown/left for others on my trip to Shell Island in 2011. Just minimal impact fun times.

I remember it being windy in the afternoon into the evening, but only moderate - nothing unpleasant. By the third day, we were hot and the wind stopped blowing to cool us down - low 90s temp. We escaped to Ensenada for relief.
