I have a problem with a slideout. When trying to retract or extend, one side will move but the other won't. Any recommendations on who I can have look

Ron...First go talk to Eddy (of Fast Eddy and the Slow Learners band), who is staying on Burros Beach. He is very knowledgeable about motorhome woes
and has an RV business in Canada) He and his wife are in the second to last papapa near Bertha's. He can most likely give you some good
advice. Finding a RV mechanic near us is another question...but the work 'might' be done by any good mechanical repairman who is shown the
problem.
Second...email Chuck Schuck at Wahoo RV in San Jose del Cabo for more information on repairs needed. I have had very good experiences with him
supplying me with RV parts this winter.

Good advice ...my fiver's hydraulic jacks were balking, so I got underneath and used my biggest hammer...working fine now.
If applicable, check your levels, too..might be low on hydraulic fluid.
Remember...clean, clean, and clean some more...

If its been setting in the extended position for a while the gasket around the slide can stick. it is good practice to clean the outer wall and wax it

One thing to check.. see if "both" hydraulic switches are turn on for the pumps that operate the slide-outs.. If one gets switched off while setting
up the jacks..

Well unfortunately I'm back!! Fast Eddie from the beach is heading back to Canada and did not have a chance to look at the slideout before departing.
I cleaned it, relubed etc and it still doesn't work. One end will retract and extend but the other doesn't. Now I think the problem is more serious
than cleaning. I tried to use the two manual rods to manually move each side. The good side will manually retract and extend but on the bad side the
rod turns but the slideout doesn't move. Seems like it might be the motor or the main rod?? (There two motors ie one for each end.) It is a real
hassle for me to lock up the palapa and drive the motorhome to the States for repair so I'm hoping to find someone that can fix at El Burro. I am
afraid to have an unknown mechanic start tearing apart the system so I'm hoping to find someone that has actually worked on and understands slideouts.
Any suggestions?? ps I am pretty motivated so money (within reason!!) is not a problem. Thanksabsinvestor - 3-17-2012 at 02:41 PM
Soulpatch- thanks. It sounds like the motor is trying to engage but nothing happens. Almost like the rod that pushes and pulls is not engaging? This
morning, after I had finished cleaning and reoiling etc, a neighbor and I and a Mexican handyman did try to extend and retract. At first the bad side
would move a little (with a minor push) but now it won't fully retract. Seems like I am making matters worse and now feel like I need to get somebody

ABinvestor...I have had Marcos Canet perform miracles on lots of electrical gadgets of mine over the last 30-some years.
He repaired my RV's electric auto-step a couple weeks ago.

Diana T- I am a member but have not been on that site for months. Good idea. I'll give it a try. Pompano- I have heard only good things about Marcos.
I don't know him but I know where he is at. The slideout won't completely come back in and since the manual crank won't work on the problem side I'll
be in a real pickle if the slideout gets extended back out and won't retract. Do you think that if Marcos tries but can't fix it that I can depend
upon him not to leave me with parts taken off and not reinstalled and to at least get the slideout back in it's current position so I can drive it to
the US for service? (I'm only asking for your opinion and won't blame you if things don't go as planned!! And, of course, I am more than happy to pay

the US. The mechanic got it torn down only to decide it was beyond his field of expertise leaving me with a bunch of removed parts and a much bigger

hey ron....weve got a arctic fox camper with a slideout....this past summer while camping it went out then wouldn't come back in...we were stuck in a
campground way up in the mountains...i called the dealer and they told me maybe i sheared off a pin in the motor shaft and to check it....i could
barely squeeze my body under with flashlight but finally got to a point where i could see the motor shaft....i hadn't sheared the pin off but what had
happened is the pin that connected the motor shaft to the slideout shaft had loosened it's nut and simply had fallen out and was laying on the
deck....the motor ran but nothing was happening....i was able to somehow pick up the pin and drop it back in the hole and then duct taped it in place
just so i could close the slideout...took it back to the dealer and they put the nut back on....i think it could be just this simple....if the motor

excellent advise, I was also thinking along the same thoughts, what make is your RV, and model, maybe post that on here also , but you might also call
the Manufactor if they are still in business
one little thought, I had a small 5th wheel slide that used to get stuck often, Now this was a small side I think about 6'
I would have the wife push the switch for the room to retract and at the same time I would be outside and push the room by hand, it worked for me, but
again it was a small slide, push on the side thats not moving
oh forgot I would also lift and push at the same time, slide outs will lock in, if its a big slide, maybe have some neighbors help

Sorry I haven't been on the site for since Monday. MulegeMichael and all this is great advice. My problem definitely sounds like the pin.
Unfortunately I don't have the motor here to check it. I spoke to Marcos on Monday and he came out on Tues (March 20). He couldn't immediately figure
out the problem so he took the motor, housing etc with him. He said he would be back on Weds. So far I haven't seen him but he has no way to contact
me so I'm hoping to see him in the next day or so. I have been staying at home in El Burro because I don't want him to show up here and me not be here
to pay him and talk to him if he can't fix it. In the short time Marcos was here I did enjoy talking to him. He is a man of few words (speaks very
little English) but has a good sense of humor. When he was leaving I asked him if he wanted a deposit since he had driven here from Mulege, spent a
good hour trying to figure out the problem when he was here and would have to return etc. He answered "what I want is to fix your problem- after I
have fixed it you can pay me!!) You have to like his attitude!! If he doesn't get here tomorrow I'll head in to town on Monday to get an update.
Currently the slideout is about 6 inches out but I don't want to move it until the removed housing and motor is at least attached. Prior to Marcos
getting here, I did get a neighbor to push when I was holding the "in" button. The slideout would go in but it would pop out on the bad side so it

Last evening I went into town to see Marcos. Unfortunately a piece of the housing had broken. It is plastic and Marcos has no way to fix without the
new part. He has no way to order so I'll get on the phone Monday to order it. I'm hoping to have the part shipped to the place that has the
refrigerator (San Diego) so when I find someone to bring the frig they can bring the part. (I'm still looking for someone coming down to bring the
frig-hint hint!!) Tried again to pay Marcos for his trip to El Burro and his time to take it apart etc- he said again- "you are not yet fixed. When

I might also say, that the part that you need may be only available from the manufactor, and then only if its a late model RV
just last month I had bought a 5th wheel 33' with 2 slides, the slide out wiring was missing,, I tried all over town at RV parts stores and not one of
them could help me, I finally contacted the manufator direct and they shipped it direct to me, FYI I bought the 5ht wheel to flip it.

Update- I took pictures of the broken parts and emailed to Winnebago. They identified the parts and agreed to send them to Mexico. The parts left the
US, via USPS priority mail, on March 28th and arrived "general delivery" to the Mulege post office yesterday ie April 10th. (Less than two weeks
which I think is pretty good.). Marcos is coming out tomorrow or Friday. He asked me to have the manual available to show him how the parts fit- I
have the manual but of course it is in English. I speak some Spanish but translating a diagram might be a challenge. We'll see. The good news is

Final update- Marcos was out today and the slideout is fixed and working perfect. Not only did he fix it but he fine tuned adjustments etc. I also had
a problem with the tow car lights Once he finished with the slideout he fixed the tow car problem. Both times he came to El Burro he brought a
worker Felix. My total bill for the two men including two trip charges, fixing the slideout and the tow car wiring was under $70!! I gave both him and
his helper a good tip which they appreciated. What a great guy- no wonder he always get outstanding recommendations!!Pompano - 4-13-2012 at 01:31 PM
Ron, I visited with Marcos yesterday afternoon about my boat trailer lights. In passing he mentioned going to Burros
today and tackling your slide-out problem.
Glad to hear it went well. Manana...Saturday, he comes out to fix my boat trailer lights, and I am sure that will go very well, too.
