Toyota introducing 40 mpg Tundra 4WD by 2014

Ken Cooke - 3-17-2012 at 12:06 PM

This might just be my excuse to go from Jeep to Toyota (like David K). Imagine the long-range knobby-tired possibilities!

I doubt it but I'm open to being wrong.:yes:

DENNIS - 3-17-2012 at 01:01 PM

Soooo....it will cost nine bucks to go forty miles in 2014. That still sucks.

Automotive News (Aug 2011): "The A-BAT concept is not dead; Scion wants it. This would be the nonhybrid version of the A-BAT, while Toyota would get a less stylized hybrid under the Prius banner... Expect it in the 2014 model year."
http://www.autonews.com/article/20110801/OEM04/308019979

Pickuptrucks.com: "the A-BAT was originally intended as a Scion vehicle, according to its designer, Matt Sperling."

Autoguide.com (November 2011): "(Scion VP Jack) Hollis has mentioned his interest in bringing a mini-truck to market; something compact and car-based, a size down from the incredibly popular Toyota Tacoma.... Initially, he says, he wanted to see about bringing over a small truck from Toyota subsidiary Daihatsu, but with all the necessary regulations it was impossible to make a business case for it. Instead, Hollis suggests he’d like to see a collaboration with Daihatsu..."

Okay... wow that was so tiny, I missed it... but it wasn't my interest being Tundra stuff. Thank you!

I read about all of the different vehicles

I am also looking for better mileage - have a 2005 Pre Runner and really like it but the mileage could be better - plenty of power though. Rear wheel disc brakes would be nice also. Jim

The news is full of reports that we have enough oil to power us at current levels for 200 years. There is no "green" energy that will get a jet into the air or power at train or a ship....or a decent 4X4 pickup truck. We desperately need to replace the pandering poltroons in WASHDC who prevent the use to that latent power. Our economy...and the world's economy...is powered by hydrocarbons...oil, gas and coal. There ain't no way around that with any tech presently available or on the horizon except nuclear which those same "leaders" oppose.

I sit here in Baja with a very fine solar system. But the cost of that and its power shortcomings will make it non economic in the USA for a long time....it's nice here but it won't power air conditioners and all the other hi amp stuff we demand up there at a price people will pay....unless forced to pay by politicians and pressure groups.

The USA population has a serious case of ignorante and adolescent "wannas" and "dumbs" ginned up and based upon propaganda in the press and by the "green" pressure groups who don't care about our economy or our liberty which is based on that economy....they, in fact, hope and press for the collapse of both.

We need to wake up before we discover that our options includes only environments and tyrannies that we can't even imagine now.

It might get decent mileage, but, man, that truck is UGLY!

Nuke powers ships and subs, and indirectly bullet trains(and some spacecraft but don't tell anyone!). Don't forget about hydrogen fuel cells which can power almost anything (hmm, not sure about planes...) and can be made from any power source. Wiser to keep all our options open, especially since solar/wind/nuke ($100/bbl equivalent) is cheaper than gas right now....it may be that ultimately what does gas in is the price, not supply.

I was wondering if I was the only one who thought that.

On another note, the Scion FR-S is a very nice vehicle. but the baja roads would destroy it.

Sweetwater - 4-20-2012 at 05:20 PM

Something like 90% of hybrid buyers would not buy a hybrid to replace their vehicle.....I read it on the Internets so I know it's true.....and if Toyota makes it......I will not come....nor will I buy it......hybrids are a bigger waste of resource than the mogas they save.....read that on the Internets.....too!

:light:

Skipjack Joe - 4-20-2012 at 05:47 PM

That is good new Ken. I look forward to it cautiously. There are many reasons why this is good news.

Ateo - 4-20-2012 at 07:36 PM

One ugly looking truck.......I'm about to buy a Prius for work driving (25,000 miles a year).

I'd be stoked to see a new tundra that was hybrid.....I doubt Toyota would release that vehicle looking the way it does.

Skipjack Joe - 4-20-2012 at 08:16 PM

On second thought, it's ugly and useless.

David K - 4-21-2012 at 10:01 AM

I don't know why Ken called it a Tundra when the article clearly says Prius-Brand Pickup... it is tiny, smaller than a Tacoma. Looks more like the Subaru Baja or Subaru Brat passenger pickup.

Ateo - 4-21-2012 at 10:05 AM

Yeah, does look pretty small sitting there in front of that garage.
