GAS STATION IN PUNTA ABREOJOS AFTER ALL ???

BajaBlanca - 3-18-2012 at 08:34 PM

we had indeed heard that the local fishing co-op in Punta Abreojos had bought out the problematical gas station that was started years ago and then sat suspended in time for years

this is what we saw yesterday:

so, it looks like the gas station will really open up one of these days .... finally !

surfer jim - 3-18-2012 at 09:06 PM

That one guy is going to get it ready himself? It looks like it may take some time.

May need to wait a while before buying gas so the storage tanks flush out.

BajaBlanca - 3-18-2012 at 09:53 PM

hey surfer Jim, this is manana land !! naw, there may in fact, and probably are, more guys working but i didn't catch them on camera

it was, after all, saturday lunchtime

last year the coop bought a 1/2 interest in the gas station which had run out of money during construction. The other 1/2 is owned by the same guy who just opened the nice new BIG station in Vizcaino (and also owns the gasoline distribution business). Construction was held up while PEMEX, etc OK'd the new partnership. Hopefully one of the days they will get a full crew in to finish the construction. Tanks, pumps, store etc are in so it won't take too much to finish. Then there is the big expense of filling all the tanks.

rts551 - 3-19-2012 at 08:23 AM

The new gas station in Vizcaino is large.I didn't take pictures but did check the accuracy of the diesel pumps with a 5 gal fuel jug and they were right on. Paved parking in rear for big rigs/RV's, store (not open yet), bathrooms and showers (clean), premium gas, and lots of pumps (4 diesel pumps). I will check the accuracy of the premium pumps next time in.

Nice to have it, but hope it does not take to much business form the Ibarra's at the old station.

Oh, yes. Its in the middle of town on the East side.

DavidE - 3-19-2012 at 03:36 PM

I've followed a lot of stations as they go up and I would have to guess this station will be operational December unless someone pits a rush on things.

Bajahowodd - 3-19-2012 at 03:51 PM

Interesting about Vizcaino, since that station just South of town has been something of a ghost since it opened. There have been reports on this forum about rigging of the pumps there.

We stopped in last October for the restrooms. The "store" was virtually empty except for the four guys sitting in the middle playing cards.

I don't really know if there is a web site where one can go to determine the franchise ownership, but given the costs involved, I always sorta thought that especially in the smaller towns, multiple sttations would be owned by the same people.

I believe that Ralph is talking about the NEW station on the East side of the highway----between the one on the north end of town and the one to which you are referring on the south end of town on the west side of the highway.

Vizcaino had gone from one to three stations.

The locals tell me there is a reason it is open and empty....something to do with laundry...but that is their rumor not mine.

No, no, thats La Bocana. They got the Pemex (maybe), we get the Costco.

DavidE - 3-19-2012 at 05:48 PM

jerryjust

check out a Ra-cor fuel filter with the 1-micron S type element. It filters out everything including water. The worst rusty crap goes in and clean diesel comes out until it plugs. I carried several spares and it saved my bacon lots of times,

until Blanca chimes in with some recent facts, if i remember right, the Bocana store is stocked from Costco in Ensenada or somewhere like that. the co-op sends its truck with fish north and it returns with Costco stuff.

rts551 - 3-26-2012 at 09:52 AM

I think all the coops do that. Each coop has their own store and most have their own gas pumps. Abreojos and La Bocana coops let you buy gas when they are open.

Since the painting is done and the tanks have been cleaned out, I believe they need to pave the area surrounding the pumps islands, fill the tanks, and get the electricity turned on. All quiet a bit for Easter.

BajaBlanca - 3-26-2012 at 09:59 AM

does abreojos carry costco stuff ? I never knew that .... Our store does and we love it !!

Yes

durrelllrobert - 3-26-2012 at 04:00 PM

There is a PEMEX station in Punta Banda on the road to La Bufadora that started construction in 2008 and is still not open. It has been complete for more than a year and the OXXO store has been operating but no gas at the pumps.:?::?:

Bajahowodd - 3-26-2012 at 04:09 PM

OK. Since there have been posts about Costco merchandise found in co-op stores in such remote places as La Bocana and Abreojos, can someone enlighten me as to how that stuff gets there?

I've noticed that for several years one can find bottled water and bathroom tissue in many of the smaller hotels up and down Baja.

Since there are Costco stores in Ensenada and Cabo, just who delivers this stuff? Thanks.

We spend some time in San Felipe and Kirkland products are avalible in most small stores. I have seen Costco delivery trucks around town also I just assumed they delivered there.
The store I shop in Ensenada also has Kirkland on the shelf's:?::?:

Sure. The coop tractor/trailers haul fish, lobster, abalone, etc north to the warehouse in Ensenada. They then pick up a collection of stuff from Costco, Home Depot or wherever (from the States a couple of times for me) to bring south instead of just an empty load.
