Driving east on the Malecon toward Pichilingue turn right just before you get to El Arco. That is Allende. The tackle store is on the right side just before you get to the Shack.

Ok, here is my $.02 on this. This morning I went to the "new tackle" shop on Allende, it is called Baja Mark and is 1 or 2 doors towards the Malecon from The Shack (which is closed on Tues & Wed to or disappointment). Baja Mark has a very nice selection of fishing gear with ballyhoo, mackerel, and sardines available, frozen. I found some connectors that I have not found elsewhere in BCS.

Yesterday afternoon I went to Ferre-Mar which is located on the right side of Revolution, 2 blocks from 5 de Febrero. They also had a nice selection of fishing gear, but I would rate Baja Mark better, BUT Ferre-Mar has a very complete selection of other marine gear, adhesives, pumps, and other stuff for the boat.

All in all, living or visiting La Paz is great, lots of good stuff available if you can find it.

There is also another nice tackle store on 16 de September.

Floatflyer, Have you gotten into the nice YT bite going on right now?

I'm curious. Are you able to buy hooks and other tackle online in La Paz? When I buy hooks, lures, etc. i buy them online in bulk to really save. If you can is there an import tax?

Alan: Yes, I have managed to snare some nice 30# yellowtail down by La Ribera. I gave them a few days of rest before I attack again, probably tomorrow. I also needed to restock a few items in preparation for battle!

How about a better location for the tackle store on Sept 16?

I have been reluctant to order anything online and have it delivered to Baja. I usually find a friend that is coming down and have them bring stuff. We have our mail forwarded from the US and it takes anywhere from 10 days to over a month, not consistent enough for important things like fishing gear!

You can buy tackle on line through "Mercado Libre" from a store in Ensenada, that ships direct. He has a lot of stuff. I dunno about getting stuff shipped from the US....I have not been very successful in doing that.

Pescador - 3-22-2012 at 06:39 AM

Anything shipped from the US is subject to importation tax and the Post Office will send a package to the Aduana's office if it looks like it is anything more than a simple letter. Almost all packages are subject to this.
Those of us who live in Baja California Sur full time usually rely on the "Friendly Pony Express" which means our friends and neighbors who are coming down get a few extra packages to haul. This system works both ways meaning I get to haul for them as well.

It's few blocks up on the left. I'll have to go by and find the cross street.

Ensenada

Does "Mercado Libre" have a brick & mortar store in Ensenada????....if so, where might it be located????

It is on Sept 16, on the left between Rameriz and Altamirano. White bldg w/blue trim. Not well marked but they have a couple small signs on the ground. Really nice selection for rod and reel and spearfishing. I found their prices a little lower than Baja Mark.
