(Baja) Car Question

Anyone currently have or have had a Jeep Jeepster or Jeep Commando either in Baja or the US??????........

Looking at one with 4x4 and the stock the Buick V-6/auto trans.

Any relavent comments on the subject???

That 225ci Buick v6 was a great engine. I had a 1970 CJ-5 with one and we replaced the stock carb with a Holley 500 cfm 2 stage 2bbl and it would get great mileage if you kept your foot out of the secondary :) We had the 3 speed so no comment on the transmission.

try a 69 with the buick 350.. one hell of a sleeper moter..that only a few people know about...torgue,,torgue,,makes a chevy feel weak and I love bowtie 350's...K&T :cool:

I have the odd-fire 225 v-6 in my cj3a (transplanted from a commando). Great (and much sought after) motor. While it used the design purchased from Buick, the jeep motor had many different parts giving it more torque and low rpm power, and was completely made by Kaiser Jeep (not Buick). If this one has the bick motor (225 or 231), it is not original.

Had a 327 v-8 and turbo 350 trans in my 43 Jeep. way too much motor.

the kaiser/jeep 1969 had a buick 350...Its what is considerd the lost year !! and the buick 350 is/was one hell of a moter...think buick GS...grand sport sleeper rocket's!! I know because I have a boat custermer that uses it to tow a large/heavy boat...oem..from the factory with the Buick 350 can pull out redwoods from the hill aka..the dauntless was it's nickname...K&T :cool:

HOLA, and the buick 350 is 200+ lbs lighter that a chev 350 a very, very sleeper motor !! do a web search..The Dauntless

to each his own. The Dauntless Buick 350 was used from 1969 until 1970 in J-series pickups and Wagoneers. There probably was a reason it was only produced during that one year for jeeps.

hola, it was made longer than that,,but only avalable in the kaiser jeeps for a short time...polatic's and AMC sad storey !!

During the late 60's the "Dauntless" Buick 225 V6 was an optional engine in the Jeepster.

1966-1971 - 134 in³ (2.2 L) F134 Hurricane I4, 75 hp (55 kW) and 114 ft·lbf (154 N·m)

1966-1971 - 225 in³ (3.7 L) Dauntless V6, 160 hp (119 kW) and 235 ft·lbf (318 N·m)

When AMC purchased Jeep from Kaiser in 1971, the Jeepster was renamed the Commando. The Commando lived on for two more years until production ended in 1973.

The Commando used one of three AMC engines, the 232 in³ (3.8 L) or 258 in³ (4.2 L) AMC Straight-6 or 304 in³ (5.0 L) AMC V8. 20,223 AMC-spec "C104" Jeep Commandos were made in 1972 and 1973

NOW, back to my original question...........has anybody had, or do you currently have a Jeepster or Commando???

AMC bought Kaiser-Jeep in 1970... actually was going down in '69 I believe, but '70 was the first year AMC badges were added... My dad had a '70 Wagoneer with a Buick 350 (his '65 Wagoneer had a Rambler V-8).

It took until the '72 year model to change to all AMC motors. In 1974, the Jeep Cherokee (a 2 door Wagoneer) replaced the Commando.

Bajaguy...if you are serious about a Jeepster:

I have seen a yellow convertible in my travels . It caught my eye several times in my driving around.
When I see it next time, I'll knock on the owner's door and ask if it may be for sale.
I don't know yet if it runs, buddy!

Having ben a Jeep fan for a lot of years and bulding a few the one constant about a JEEP is the name and that started as a nick name over the life span of the JEEP many different companys have contributed to the vehicle being what is today. in the earlier years there wasnt many drive train and engine optins That being said about all one could say about their Jeep was it had a paticular motor or drive train .and the one setting next to it might have a different engine and drive train. the components were bought from the lowest bidder.
The possibilitys for some one to custom build a jeep with over the counter parts is endless if you are willing to do some research because of that fact.

nothing to do with the subject but in the early 60s I built off-road deer hunting vehicle starting with 1 1957 Forward Control (cab over) FC-150 Jeep equiped with a Chevy 283 and added overdrive to the 4x4 transfer case for highway cruising.
