OK Post peepers, my question re: border crossing is still out there and I'd rather have one of you salty dogs answer than some idiot at AAA. Most of
my time in Baja has been in the South, but I am holing up around Ensenada for a good amount of time and am trying to convince my daughter to drive
down, so the query is more about how they treat cute 18 yr. olds. So give me a break. Sorry about the two dirty words in my first post (law
enforcement).
Listen to "Hose A"

advice then go from there (if you will)
There are at least a dozen female Baja solo travelers on this board (chime in here ladies please) The only problem I might have with the advice given
is "stay close to cities" ....cities is where there might be a problem (is it different at home?) Just advise her to have her insurence, realize that
the car with the edge is in the "right"and safely get out of TJ. as soon as possible! and if she or you needs a really, really good Dentist in
Eneanada, give me a "holler"

I second Debra, I am now close to 53 (real close) from age 16 a bit over have driven down to Baja as a solo female. Just do as Hose A says. Drive
during day light hours only. My goodness I round trip from Julian to Ensenada many times a year solo, even a few trips all the way to La Paz. Never
had a problem only wonderful people and kindness. Have her top her take off a few exits before the border. Money for the toll and she should do just
fine. When is she going down? I go often if there is a worry and the same time I will be heading down she can tail my car down. I take the free road
to Rosarito. U2 me the dates. Cyndarouh

Obey posted speed limits, despite what all the cars passing you may otherwise suggest.

Dont forget the get outa TJ part. Very important for a solo young anyone.

If it is up to my daughter, she will be out of there like a shot. I'm not sure how I bred such a city girl.

your words driving down imply a route from above like LA or SF, etc.
Crossing at Tecate is amazingly simple and fast, but is 35 miles out of the way. If she were coming from AZ or that direction it would be a
recommendation

LA to Rosarito. What is a good hotel there anyway?
You are probably in fer it now !!
jrbaja - 10-7-2004 at 03:04 PM
There are some on here that will predict doom and gloom for your daughter staying in Rosarito.
They don't live here and are only going by stories they have heard.
Rosarito is a blast and the cute girls are treated exactly how they deserve to be treated. With respect. By the locals anyway.
If they are in a club getting drunk and flirting/taking their clothes off as many of the girls from north of the border like to do, then they will
be treated accordingly.
If they are well mannered and show some respect for themselves and others they have no problems.
Rosarito Beach Hotel probably has a sale going on now as it is the slow season.
Festival Plaza has good deals but is pretty loud and in the center of the "action".
Castillos de Mar is away from town with a private beach. I think it is about $70-$80 per night but really nice.
There are many you should be able to get in town for under $25.00 a night.
I'm going in there later so I will look.

I Beg Your Pardon!!! No daughter of mine would ever be seen...blah, blah, blah. Really, she is a good kid and she is coming to visit me as I am
running away to Mexico, and I just want to make sure she is as safe as possible. Thanks for any info in hotels tho
I'm not insinuating anything.
jrbaja - 10-7-2004 at 03:10 PM
I'm just telling you how it is.
surfwidow - 10-7-2004 at 04:53 PM
You know at first I thought you guys were kidding, but I'm paying attention now. My husband and I traveled to very laid back places or camping. My
daughter camped with us up the East Cape, but never came near the scene you were describing. Are the beaches outside of Rosarito more removed from
that stuff?
Just the clubs are like that.
jrbaja - 10-7-2004 at 05:00 PM
And to many, that is what Rosarito and Ensenada are know for. Partying. Because they can come down here and drink at 18!
BUT, there is a lot more to see and do if you are not into that scene.
The beaches are awesome, the restaurants delicious, the Artisans Marketplace in downtown is really fun to shop and barter, horseback riding on many
beaches down here, (I recommend somewhere south of town rather than in Rosarito), etc.
Check your u2u Surfwidow.

Where exactly have you seen this?
One minute, I'm going to get a note pad...
Rosarito

Any summer weekend. Papas n Beer, Club Iggy's, Rock n Roll Taco, Club Tequila, Boom Boom, there's about 4 square blocks of party.
We even go there ourselves on occasion. It's fun ! And we're old !!
Definitely a major part of Rosarito but not by any means, "the only thing to do" here.

Surfwidow,
Found this on another forum that I read, perhaps it will add to what has been said already, this is in Turkey, not Mexico or Baja, but Americans in
tourist areas seem to be similar worldwide, at least from my travels.
Travel's Blog in Turkey:
"When my girlfriend returned from Bulgaria she was pretty peeed off since she?d been harassed by three guys and grabbed by one of the vermin on her
way to the hostel. I was livid! I could write 20,000 words on why I think this happens - but I?ll keep my rant short-sweet-n-controversial: Western
women have a certain reputation in the well visited parts of Turkey. Whether this reputation is justified is open to debate, but things do happen when
women come here on holiday - behaviour which even in a secular Islamic country like Turkey doesn?t rank them very highly on the social scale. These
pigs would never dare grope a local woman - they would be lynched! It?s not western movies, porn or MTV that corrupts their fragile little minds into
thinking western women are easy, since they watch that crap all over the Islamic world - this chit only happens in touristy areas. It?s a reputation
that has been formed by actual experiences and most profoundly these experiences are exaggerated by hearsay which perpetuates amongst a sexually
repressed local population."
Now I have met and know numerous single females that travel the world solo and the advice given above is good advice, act like you want to be treated
and the odds are you will be treated that way, and Don't leave your manners at the border.
