Mexicali to San Felipe Road Construction

On my way down later this week. When we came back a few weeks ago they were working hard at digging the side roads for the upcoming construction. Just curious if anyone has been down in the past few days to see if they have started detouring cars onto the side roads yet?

Trying to decide if I can take my little car with better gas mileage or take the gas guzzling 4x4.

I'm doing a Mexicali Costco trip from San Felipe sometime this week. I'll let you know.

Maybe,...? the detours are in downtown Mexicali (between the border and Costco)... that was where two were last July.

No detours at all .......as of Sunday. Outside of Mexicali that is. Looks like the new highway is bout to cut into that mountain range....yeah!

We decided to take our sports-car down...and not the Dodge fuel beast. $112.00 for fuel from Sacramento Ca Oh yes!

However........
It was very windy....and the tall orange cone markers they have out there on the highway divide .....were being blown into the lanes. Cars were swerving into OUR lanes to avoid hitting the cones. Very dangerous that was.

The road to SF is GREAT!

Word of warning......once into North San Felipe ........the Federal Police are issuing tickets..... hard...... on fast drivers. They are out in force. Down by the ED is the most intense area.

What about 'inside' Mexicali or do you use the East or Algodones border?

Just drove thru there about noon today (4/2). No detours yet , a few signal men slowing traffic near heavy equipment. Need to drive a little more cautiously, as in some areas the already narrow shoulders have been removed.

Inside Mexicali is where the real mess is. Get's down to one lane... in and out of the boulevard.

We took the east exit....just freaking great. One can catch Ca 8 right outside of the exit and head for San Diego. About 8 miles out of the way...but the time factor is made up by NOT having to wait so long :light:

To make clear...the main highway to San Felipe OUTSIDE of the city limits of Mexicali ......is free of detours. That's a first!

Well I am going to do the same thing as you and take my 30 mpg putt putt. But it is a low rider and don't want to bottom out.

Since I am coming from AZ I usually go to San Luis and cross, catch Hwy 2 over to Hwy 5 and miss Mexicali totally.
