Baja Cactus bano

thebajarunner - 4-7-2012 at 03:41 PM

Miracle of miracles..... after pestering Antonio all these years to fix up the "gents" we drove through two weeks ago and lo and behold the project was in full swing. There was a guy, standing on a short scaffold, plastering the front of the bano.

Well, true to form, ten days later, Northbound, stopped for fuel and the same guy was standing on the same scaffold, still plastering the same spot.

Which just proves that even a progressive guy like Antonio still moves in "manana time"

Russ - 4-7-2012 at 03:56 PM

I noticed the same guy, probably, in mid March and then again early April. They're telling every one to use the hotel bathroom. Progress is really slow! I've seen a whole station go in faster:yawn:

Like the Lone Ranger maybe David K can move into town and get the problem fixed!! How bout a foto. Manana isn't as bad as the offensive smell of Pine Sol and urine?! It has been an ugly scene there in the Pemex for a while. Tio

You guys were in such a hurry that you didn't notice the mason on the scaffolding was a statue. Antonio is into art these days.

Udo - 4-7-2012 at 05:53 PM

Even last December, that same bańo was under construction.

So I used the bushes behind the building.
My wife went next door to Mama Espinoza's.

Well, it's nice to know that Mama's place is good for something these days....

Jesus Christo!!!!

i LOVE you guys!!!! since La Mijita's better days i am in the court thinking that ER is one of the armpits of the world.... i hate to turn the page like this, but JC, if it wasn't for the last chance gas/supplies, ER would be just a sharp left turn on the way to somewhere else........

How many times does Antonio's invitation need to be posted...? Walk into the motel lobby, and use the bathroom in there, the door is to the left of the front desk. If you have not stayed there, ask to see one of the rooms, if vacant...

The Pemex bathroom will be finished MAÑANA!*

*(in Mexico, mañana doesn't mean 'tomorrow'... it just means 'not today'!)

New bathroooms at Antonio's Pemex in El Rosario

Pompano - 4-29-2012 at 09:10 AM

El Rosario. Following my custom of filling the motorhome and pickup with gas and diesel at the Baja Cactus Pemex station ... which is as honest as it gets on the Baja Road:

Below: Just stopped Baja Cactus Pemex station 3 days ago on the route north. April 26, 2012.

The new bathrooms look good...and are completely finished inside. Just some finishing touches left outside...paint, plaster.

Above: While topping off my Cummins with diesel, I met Antonio doing the same to his truck.

Below: My caravan member, Scot, took this photo of us. Antonio told me of the many new construction and addition delays caused by having to deal with endless Pemex red tape. "You can't pound a nail without an okay from Pemex headquarters. Literally any change or addition has to approved beforehand and the request is definetely treated as a 'manana' type.

I can certainly sympathize with Antonio as I've had those same exasperating delays in getting things done while having to follow bureaucratic, red-taped rules.

Antonio is a real gentleman and always a pleasure to meet.

BajaBlanca - 4-29-2012 at 09:18 AM

finally !! good on you for taking the photos so we all know and good on Antonio for finalizing !

Ateo - 4-29-2012 at 09:23 AM

Sweet. My wife and daughter will be stoked to hear this. No more pulling off the side of the road south of El Rosario to look for a bush.

goldhuntress - 4-29-2012 at 10:02 AM

Funny, just last night my BF called and said "Good news, the worst baños in Baja are being remodeled!"

fandango - 4-29-2012 at 10:12 AM

is the womens room done as well? why no photos?

Udo - 4-29-2012 at 10:16 AM

Just use the women's at Mama Espinoza, next door.

DavidE - 4-29-2012 at 10:17 AM

Baja Cactus is one of the few gasolineras I trust. It feels strange to say to the gasolinista "lleno con verde por favór"

Why no photos of the womens room? Hmmmm....

The fixture selection is still going on?

Here's your fandango photo.

Since I started this thread....

Maybe this can bring it to a happy conclusion.
Great photos,
Nice job Antonio

Now, those unplastered spots appear to be the same ones the guy was working on when we drove South mid-March, and the same spots same guy still working on last of March,
and here we are at end of April, same spots, no guy working.

In some cultures it is not ever appropriate to completely finish a job, for various reasons, like getting the tax appraiser to get a new number, etc.

Is there a reason that this seems to be the permanent "un"finished job>>>

just wondering, but all in all looking very nice.

Bajahowodd - 4-29-2012 at 03:41 PM

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

If I'm not mistaken, there appears to be urine in the toilet in Pompano's photos..

I will certainly agree with Pompano's assessment of Antonio being a gentleman. But, as someone posted earlier, it seems that some Pemex station get built in less time than this bathroom project. And, I have a difficult time believing that Pemex would have such rigorous red tape for an improvement to an existing station, especially considering it's run by a long time franchisee.

And although the tile and stainless look really nice, our friend Pompano didn't post any shots of actual TP or soap or towels. Just saying that tile, stainless steel and waterless urinals still don't allow you to clean up.

surfer jim - 4-29-2012 at 04:01 PM

TMI....(too much information)

I can still remember the time I got locked INSIDE the bathroom and was unable to OPEN the door from the inside.

dtbushpilot - 4-29-2012 at 04:10 PM

One toilet, one urinal, three different types of tile, no sink, no door.....yep, sounds about ready to me.
On my last trip through I went to the motel to see about the alternate bathroom, couldn't wait for the 3 people already there waiting to use the 1 bathroom available.....back to the roadside rest stop....dt

Bajahowodd - 4-29-2012 at 04:40 PM

One other observation.

I see all these posts about the honest pumps at this station.

As if, it is the only one in all of Mexico. Methinks those folks are doing a great disservice to all the other honest Pemex franchisees all over the country.

There are a few bad apples. Period. Very few. This forum does a great job of ferreting-out those few bad ones and sharing that info.

Just saying that although there are no Pemex stations South of El Rosario for quite some distance, there are a ton of them only 30-40 minutes to the North. Just thinking that the station by Los Pinos would have to be crazy to cheat customers on the same pumps they use for their own employees and vehicles.

And, dt is correct in his observation that the remodel does not add any additional facilities. ( Gonna put tile over the concrete floor, is that OK with you guys?) Just another question about the so-called Pemex red tape. Anyone care to show me where Pemex has to get involved in an interior decorative change? Makes zero sense to me.

Hey Bajahowodd...guess what, it's a bathroom! You know, I'll just bet URINE does happen here, although that particular colored water in the toilet that you are 'alluding to' is merely dirty water from the workman's cleanup. Fer chriss sakes, it's a gosh darnn men's bath..did you expect Chanel No. 5 instead?

I am very sorry I took the time to post these photos, but thought I could do Antonio a favor. Obviously certain people should continue to use the bushes and continue to post their disparaging remarks on a Pemex station I find up to par with any station in the USA.

Consider me ..gone.

chuckie - 4-29-2012 at 05:41 PM

AND, I wonder how often most the whiners actually use it? How long does one spend in a mens room? Geeeez

DavidE - 4-29-2012 at 05:58 PM

Chuckie, maybe you've never been in a genuine old-fashioned baño in a gasolinera. What the heck, here goes...

The taza is overflowing onto the floor with raw sewage. Luckily the floor tiles are all broken so the stuff is only a half inch deep. Toilet seat? Hahahahahahahahahaha! But it's only 16 blocks to the next available sanitario, and so what that you have to go "right-now!"

How do you wipe the stuff off the soles of your shoes before you get back in the car. The gasolinera has no water. You shuffle ten or twenty yards across the badly cracked asphalt, scraping as best you can.

Ever find a perfect creosote bush to dart behind and find a very cranky steer there or a rattler? Don't worry, the next anything tall enough to hide behind is only a quarter-mile away but sigh, there is no place to pull off the road.

I am thankful to find a decent restroom never mind a clean one.

Ever ride 75 or so miles with a woman who definetly did not want to squat and fall backwards into a patch of cholla. Hell, make that 75 DAYS?

norte - 4-29-2012 at 06:26 PM

Pomp/ Glad you did the pictures. But no door?????? ladies have to sit you know.
