Last night after midnight we were awakened by our guard dog, Raven, the mini lap Lab, who ran out of our casita in pursuit of something. Got up,
found the flashlight and went around the corner where an intruder was trapped in our solar system room. Glad to report no injuries or stress attacks.
This is about the second time we have ever seen one of these guys in the 27 yrs we have been down here. We have a couple of foxes hanging around for
the first time ever as well. Who needs Facebook!

We've had'em in our yard and around the house in San Nicolas this last couple of years.

This has been a pretty unique season. We, too, have had mapaches(racoons) .Raven treed one before we knew what was going on and since then, we take
our bird feeders down at night to minimize after hour visitations. A few years ago we had a small zorro(skunk) that spent lots of time behind our
fridge and caused no problems, except for stealing bananas from the hanging fruit basket in the kitchen. Note: we live in an open air palapa style
house!
This year we have had an infusion of chipmunks and they have been assaulting our garden which has caused me to plan out a new and reenforced netting
system for next season. As we start looking forward to summer in British Columbia, we will hopefully be renewing our friendship with Miss Vicky our
fox that eats out of our hand. Chica, the Baja fox, and her mate, Cheech, have proven to be more wary and only visit for treats served at a distance.
We see an occasional badger here too. I'm amazed you got that close to take a photo. I'm very wary of them and "ditto" to what luckyman said -
careful!

We have 3 bird baths around the yard so I don't think he was after anything in the battery room except to get away from the killer guard dog, tee,
hee.
My wife said that he smelled like a skunk even though I didn't notice the smell. He was not the least bit aggressive and had his head hidden behind
the batteries for awhile. While we went to get the camera he started coming out of the room. We took a couple of pics and then went back to bed. He
may be the one eating out of our compost pile, we had thought it was fox or racoon, who knows, a buffet and stale tortillas are favored.

I live in central California and we have badgers here. They are mean and viscious, don't let your animals near them or they will be torn apart! Look

just FYI, a skunk is zorrillo or mofeta. Zorro is fox. Of course in local dialect, you maybe correct.

I stand corrected! I knew I should have had my wife proofread my post especially if it has any Spanish in it.
A Mexican neighbor is telling me that a badger is a mapache and we are pretty sure he is wrong. A mapache is a racoon and we have one or more of them
around too. A search has indicated that a badger is a tejon but I wouldn't bet a lot on that. If you have the correct name for a badger, please
share.
Also while we are aware of the potential mayhem a badger can cause, we have co-existed with many wild animals for many years with little conflict. We
do not harass them and give them their space and most of all, respect. For 30+ yrs we were on a bear highway with virtually daily sightings of black

Yep, that is her with the family and Osa on Glacier Lake, NWT, CA. Sorry about your dog, I would like to think that as long as my little girl isn't
trapped somewhere her quickness would keep her out of harms way. Since she doesn't hassle anything, it would take something like a mtn lion or coyote
to be interested in her, I hope.
