Mama Espinoza's for breakfast in El Rosario

BajaNomad - 4-14-2012 at 01:17 PM

Once again enjoyed the quality of the breakfast experience this morning at Mama Espinoza's in El Rosario. Seems that our opportunities to stop in here are in the mornings more often than at other times, and have enjoyed this as one of the breakfast options we consider in town.

Prices for traditional MX food items/plates across the entire menu still seem to be fairly reasonable; some seafood items could be viewed as "pricey" by some. Remember that it's all relative to each individual.

Enjoyed the salsas brought to the table with the meal, and they made sure we didn't run out of coffee or tortillas.

I appreciate that the staff here is both very personable - and professional - at the same time. Also part of the experience inside the restaurant is the Baja 1000 and Baja 500 racers' memorabilia on the walls here. It is something else we enjoy and appreciate the history of in Baja.

You never know who you might run into at Mama's as well - simply by who else is drawn here by the historic reputation... and this morning enjoyed a small conversation with some of the flying doctors from Tucson who'd come to El Rosario for a couple of days. It was not their first stop at Mama's on their short trip btw...

As we were staying at the Baja Cactus Motel, being a couple of doors down just adds to the attraction of Mama's for breakfast, being (relatively) quick - and definitely convenient.

And that's my $.02 on the subject.

Yup, never had a bad breakfast there either... But we do rotate between there and Baja's Best...

Thanks Doug for the update. Nice that you are traveling in Baja!

I'm hoping there are a lot more of these glowing reports about Mamas. I'd try it again. Just can't go in there though after too many bad to eatable meals. It is convenient so I went back too many times hoping for improvements. Still hoping:barf:

I think that was the last time we ate breakfast there... when you were there, too? :light:

Every time we head south of Ensenada, Mama's is our favorite eatery...especially their crab soup, and their crab or lobster Chile Rellenos.

Second favorite eatery is Mario's Palapa, about a mile north of Gerrero Negro. Seafood is superb, and the margaritas WILL get you toasted with just one!

what he said !!!! We have never had a bad breakfast at mama's and we enjoy Mario's too ...

Mario's daughter- in - law is the local vet in G Negro and used to work for the biosphere.

also, if you like meat - MAKE SURE you eat the filet mignon at Malarrimo in G Negro. melt in yoru mouth delicious. truly beyond words good.

The end of March I stopped in El Rosario after a long day's drive from Buena Vista. Baja Cactus was full, went to Tourista Motel, we were the only people there. Went across the street to Baja's best for a margarita and dinner, they were both bad. I was disappointed, I've had good food there before. Maybe I'll try Mama's again....or press on to San Quentin

The small place across from Tacos Mision has always been good. First started out as a small taco stand but had increased in size through the years. Forget the name but consistent, good food at very reasonable prices....food to go as well.

after La Mijita died we just bypass El Rosario.... good food in SQ 1/2 hour up the road, and the beach is only 3-4 hours south.......:saint:

Hi Doug,

Thank you for that very nice review of Mama Espinoza's Restaurant. I have E-mailed Roli to let her know of your review. I always let her know about the Good, the Bad and the Ugly!

I would love to see Chef Gordon Ramsey do a Baja Kitchen Nighmares show!

He would kick their buttts until they got consistent, quality food on the tables -- to those average tourists stopping by. Guess some of us are not part of the clique.

Exactly what Russ said. The people are very friendly and it's very convenient but the value is horrible in my opinion. Overpriced and mediocre (at best) food. I have not tried the breakfast though and am open to that idea. My wife disagrees with me and thinks the lobster tacos are fabulous and a great price. Our teenage kids won't even go back.

As a heads up - last time thru we ate at the little pizza joint attached to the restaurant on the left side heading south and it was EXCELLENT. Was not expecting very good pizza in el Rosario but were very pleasantly surprised!
