“We started the next morning, our last day, off with drinking chocolate and churros at EL MORO. We aren't super-sweet tooth types, as you may have
gathered, but this was something we had to have once and it really was delicious.
They're frying those suckers up fresh to order and it shows.
We were in wind-down mode at this point, feeling a little under the weather and mostly wanted to just wander around and soak it all in one last time.
I did spot the ALMEYRA food truck doing slamming business and decided to grab a torta just for fun. Another delicious and cheap snack. We also headed
back to EL HUEQUITO for one last plate of tacos al pastor (ok, we had a couple of plates each) before heading back to LA MASCOTA for our last meal.
They were having a seafood "buffet" (although no actual buffet was to be found) so we got a few final plates of food (seafood c-cktail, not as good as
El Caguamo, but still solid, some sincronizadas) and sat back with our final tequilas. The servers knew us well by this point and posed for pictures
with my wife. Like I said, La Mascota started to feel like our regular haunt after a while.
Sadly, the next morning found us heading straight to the airport and out of Mexico. There were things we never managed to do: Bar La Opera (we peeked
in at the amazing decor but never got to visit), Tlalpan to the south, more markets, more tort as, etc etc…) But we left with a great appreciation for
the people, the culture and the food of this glorious city. There's no other city like it and we definitely plan to be back!
The end!”
