I Would Love To Assemble A List Of Folks

DavidE - 4-18-2012 at 09:14 AM

That will be coming down Mex 1 in the coming months, including summer that would be passing by Guerrero Negro, Vizcaino, etc.

I need small packages brought, that would perhaps be one cubic foot in size and weigh no more than five pounds max.

I could meet somewhere in town alongside the main highway. Some of the items are NON CONTROLLED medicines that are not available in Mexico. Over the counter stuff that you can legally have a wheel barrow full and pass through any reten.

All items would be shipped to an address of your choosing pre-paid. Nothing would be easily breakable, spillable, or hazardous.

So far I have found two muy amable Nomads to help. But after the 8th of May I am out of luck unless I get pro-active about this.

Could I offer money? Lunch? Dinner?

I have a TelMex land line and a TelCel cellular.

How often do you have to do this?

"Some of the items are NON CONTROLLED medicines."

What might the other items be?

That is a great question Dennis, thanks for asking it...

Timing belt, and tensioner for an engine NOT available in refraccionarias.

Alternator stators, hand-wound in Chula Vista CA. 1 lb ea. Maybe in Jul - Sept.

85 watt CFL to help see with my cataract. In original shipping carton

Short length of 12 gauge marine electrical wire.

Electrical terminals

Gardener's hand tools, stainless potting spade, palm size hand rake

Hand tools

None of the above is available down here in any way, shape or form. This stuff is to be spread out so that no one order is larger than what I said. Most important stuff first. If I run out of volunteers, oh well, that's my problem :-)

Apparently these folks deliver.

The reason I asked is, I have a mail service deliver all of my mail, including lots of packages, large and small, from San Ysidro to my door here in PB.
If it happens that you completely run out of contacts, let me know and perhaps we can get creative with something. Don't know exactly what, but.......something.

Where I live no service at all delivers. COFIPRIS Sector Salud will seize any and all medications, CPap supplies, and anything else medical including diabetic test strips. The inspection is 1000% complete on any package being shipped into Mexico regardless of method or cost. Items are held at Aduana in Mexico City where YOU must go in person, hire a customs broker, remain for a week while COFIPRIS releases the item (it's done on an item by item basis), and then you can leave. Cost for a thousand dollars worth of medical gear was five thousand three hundred dollars, travel, hotel, taxi, custom's broker and 16% tax from Las Peñas Michoacán To México D.F.

It would cost me, a hundred sixteen dollars to ship a thirteen dollar CFL light to a drop point ONE HUNDRED FORTY NINE MILES from where I live. Not bad considering the transit time would be a little more than a month.

I really try to puzzle these things out before I go public.

The main hurdle is getting the package through the border which I can have done weekley. If any big-hearted Nomad was passing through, it may be in their schedule to meet me on the road in Maneadero and pick it up for the rest of the journey south.

Just a thought.

Dennis, the next time I pass by Maneadero I will have by then let you know at what hour and day. You are due a full round of cervezas y botanas at your favorite watering hole. I have a TelCel so keeping in contact won't ba a problem. Gracias Amigo!

I am heading from Denver to La Paz via The Inland Empire the first week of June. I will be in a Mercury Mountaineer with 3 people, so nothing too large. I am more than willing to help out if possible. To me this is what makes this board such a great place, every nomad I have met has been great!
