I have to return to the USofA in July and was looking at the Almanac...I plan to go out through Gonzaga-San Felipe ..Why not continue east to

Depending on final destination...why not go a little further east and cross at San Luis..good highway all the way to the crossing, and if your going
further east than that, there is a new, wide, 4 lane bypass around Yuma that connec

We went thru Algodones in late January. Narrow streets, light traffic, no problems.
The road between Algodones and Mexicali is narrow with a lot of agricultural equipment moving on it, but you're not going that way.rts551 - 4-20-2012 at 07:11 AM
I use 4 to 3 to 6 San Felipe HWY to Algadones. Some use 6 all the way Mexicali to Algadones. Either way never seems to be too big a problem for

I always used Hwy 2 and exited just before the toll gate coming into San Luis. It is a straighter shot than the Hwy 2 exit at Benito Juarez. My
favorite part of the trip was the grade at La Rumarosa. Since I was headed to Colorado, it only made sense to buy more cheap Mexican gasoline and
crossing only when I had to.
The exit at San Luis is a very busy crossing and I normally saved time by crossing at Algodones, unless you tried to do it in the afternoon when

How do you get your exit-form (to be kept with your FM3) when you exit Mex at a busy crossing like Tiuana or Mexicali? All you see is US customs and

You don't. It's not required. Can you imagine how many FMs are crossing every morning at TJ? Can you further imagine what it would be like if they
all had to park and take care of business.....every day?

OK, I could not picture that either. But when we came in by air after leaving by car, they gave us a stink at the Cabo airport. Just trying to avoid

It depends on where you are going. I live in Phoenix and San Felipe so I have been up and down all of these roads many times and can only give you my
point of view.
Mexicali East
If you take the airport road and hit the crossing from the back side, this is not a bad option. The pros are that there are many lanes that open up
to get across the border. The cons, if you hit it on Saturday or Sunday or during early or late business hours during the week, it cam be a long
wait.
Los Algodones
I don't like this crossing for a few reasons. To get to the border you have to drive through every little village with tons of speed bumps. Once you
get to Los Algodones you may have to weave your way through the town to cross using one lane. If you do get to the crossing and there is no one in
line it is a good choice.
San Luis
I like San Luis for a couple of reasons. Most folks don't cross here because the California folks cross to the west and there are not many Arizona
folks that go to San Felipe they mainly go to Rocky Point.
