Solar eclipse (partial) May 20

North America gets its first big solar eclipse since the awesome 1991 event that swept across BCS, between Cd. Constitucion and La Paz.

It is "annular" which means at most there will be 88% coverage of the sun, around 6:30 p.m, and that maximum path goes North from just above Sacramento for about 150 miles.

San Diego is indicating 76% coverage, so the percentage will drop as you get further South into Baja, still a great event.

Welding glass of #13 or #14 should be safe- we only stock #12 at our store but you can combine lower powers to achieve safe cover.

Of course, nothing in my lifetime will match the 7 minutes of darkness we had on that bright summer day in 1991 near KM 100 north of La Paz- that was the ultimate, but this one should be pretty interesting.

And, the next "total" in North America is August 21, 2017 and will center around Salem, John Day, Baker City, etc. in Oregon, after coming across country from East to West.

Great stuff!!!
