Convict Lake Resort

Recently we were returning home from a road trip and we didn't want to high ball it home. Late afternoon in the Mammoth Lakes area, where to stay in off season? I thought of Convict Lake Resort, just south of Mammoth Airport off 395. Midweek off season cabins, with direct tv flat screen tv, modern bath, kitchenette and king bed with twin bed for 2 are $79.00. They have over 20 cabins in various sizes and prices. Very quiet with a first class restaurant on the property. I give them a big thumbs up!!!

Truly God's Country!!! This is great------I never imagined that they were open in winter or early spring. Nice price too for what you get. I am going to remember that.

Love Convict Lake and all the area around it---have only camped there in the past, but those cabins sound real nice. Do you know if they are pet friendly?

According to their website they are (pet friendly). Glad you enjoyed the photos!

Convict Lake

A great USFS tent/RV campground there also. Huge trout in the lake, and there is a good, easy trail to hike around the lake. Takes about 45 minutes.

Convict Lake is made for kayaks. A small general store, showers and small boat rentals are also available. They used to have an outstanding restaurant there.

Back to the pictures---- I especially like the light in the first photo and the detail on the bird out the window is great.

Regarding "kayaks"------------be aware that Convict Lake has killer-winds that come up fast ala Baja style. And, the water is kinda cool compared to the SOC. But you are right in that it is heaven in good weather.

Not this trip. Basing out of Convict Lake Resort would be a great way to spend 3-4 days shooting the eastern sierra though.

Years ago my wife and I along with other friends took our check out dive in Convict Lake while getting our Naui certification!! Did pool work in the pool at Whitmore. Later went to Annacapa for another, slightly warmer, check out dive. Good memories.

Wonderful pics and thanks for the info on the resort and cabins.

I LOVE the Eastern Sierra area and that whole strip of country up and down 395. SO much amazing scenery and so many great little towns, lakes and places to see and visit!!

I've been through there many times and have camped and stayed in quite a few places. I'm always wanting to get back up there!!!

Good grief, I was about 7-8 when I went camping at Convict Lake with my aunt, uncle and cousins. We made our own camp site. They had a "resort" where you could rent horses and a guide to circle the lake. The guide was nick named "one eye" for obvious reasons. As a younger person, I visited the lake many times. Brings back memories. Thanks for the post-great photos.

Great pics. I love the eastern sierras. We did some camping in the area 2 years ago, and hit Convict lake for some fishing. Caught a ton of trout. It looks much better in the summer IMO.
