Does anyone know if they test for mad cow disease in Mexico?

Gosh, Doctor, I quickly clicked on your link hoping you had the answer to that question... thought of this last night, too.

The article you posted was most informative, more than the local newscast from the Hanford metropolitan area in California. Coverage there did not mention that discovery of this came because the cow had been randomly selected for testing nor that it had not demonstrated any overt signs of illness. They emphasized only that no tainted meat had entered into the food supply.

Wow!

Just got a response...

Just got a response from a reader on the Punta Banda Bulletin Board who says they don't...he is going to elaborate on it further hopefully, he says they don't test but they keep labs on them..whatever that means (sent off an email to him asking to explain further).

It really makes me wonder about tacos de sesos.
I used to see them offered a lot in East Los Angeles.
They were quite popular. No so much as of late.

There must ne some surveillance as one can search incidence by country here:

There was a significant reaction to BSE detection in the Canadian cattle industry in Alberta a few years ago (2003). In combination with drought and an economic crash, the resulting crisis lead to export restrictions in the beef export industry. Mexico, USA & Canada agreed to standards, but implementation is up to each country.

Let's face it.

Being a Cow in Mexico would make ANYONE Mad.

That said, there ARE a lot of them walking around.

Many of which are likely eaten.
