Quickest way to Loreto from San Jose Del Cabo ?

bajafreaks - 4-26-2012 at 02:47 PM

I will be traveling from San Jose Del Cabo to Loreto in mid May what would be the quicker route to take ? Down to cabo and back up thru todos or take the east cape route. Its my understanding theres road construction in the pescadero area. Taking my time how long should it take me ? Thanks

If you are in SJDD, the distance to La Paz is only about 15 miles longer on Hwy. 1 than going through Todos Santos... but if there are no detours on Mex 1, why go the other way?

Definitely longer going the East Cape route, 'cause you'd want to stop at at a loncheria San Bartolo or the El Triunfo cafe for lunch!

Enjoy the trip,

If I go the cabo route hell I probably wouldnt make it past Zippers without stopping :)
I havent been thru Todos in years wouldnt mind checking it out again, forget Cabo burned out on that seen long ago, its a long trip and I'm going to do it in a day just looking for the best route taking road conditions/construction into consideration. Thanks again

The quickest way to get from Lorreto to Cabo would be in one of these. 6-7 hours.:lol:

The quickest/easiest is Hwy 19. New super Hwy is almost finished between Cabo and Pescadero after months of hellish conditions. Beautiful vistas! Todos Santos to La Paz is a four lane Hwy, too. Just make sure to cool off with a cold one at Shut Up Franks?! Tio

So was that the last section of construction and it is 4 lanes all the way to Cabo from La Paz?

Yes, DK and others. The four lane to Cabo has one short little section near Cabo and then the hill N of Elias calles and then it will be done! Neither section is very difficult to drive thru. Beautiful new Hwy with newly painted lines, guard rails and reflectors!! They have been kickin burro ...prolly for the G 27/ World leaders I am told. 45 minutes to Costco and then lunch at Mike's Roadhouse next door; stop in for a visit to an old Cabo favorite-- his business has been slowed by the Crisis. :tumble::tumble: Tio

New stretch of road had only a couple dirt detours last week. Hardest part is trying to figure out which lane you are supposed to be in! It still goes from four lanes to two quite a bit. Not marked very well. I followed (from the right side of a divided section) a delivery truck that was on the wrong side. Cars going the other way were flashing their lights and honking but the guy didn't figure it out til I caught up with him on a hill. Not sure it's time to enjoy the vistas yet! Will be great though.

I hope everything is constructed so en la temporada, a person has room enough on
Mex 19 to pull over onto a shoulder and buy a bag of tunas de pitahayas from one of those brave young men who risk becoming a pincushion when they harvest. Agua fresca de pitahaya to me is one of the treasures of Baja California Sur.

Maybe tito was on to something. The G-20 thing. Just a few months back, the detours were abundant.

I do recall when they had s big conference several years back, it was the toll road from the airport that got built in record time. Only problem was that there was so much cost-cutting that a bunch of the bridges failed in short order.

That said, if the Todos highway is finished, it would be a no-brainer. Fourlane, and much of it freeway all the way from La Paz to Cabo.
